So, does that mean that "street photography" can be nothing more than an event in one's community? A wedding, a funeral, a family reunion, a PTA meeting? "Event photography" and "street photography" are virtually synonymous?

They are diametrically opposed!

Street Photography intends to show how "the human condition" relates to the environment. That is a very abstract subject, basically the intangible relationships between tangible objects.

Joel Meyerowitz has said "I want the ephemeral connections between unrelated things to vibrate." That is a wonderful way to summarize Street Photography.

But as I noted, you can take Street anywhere, including perhaps those you mention. It might far easier on a street in NYC though! Because appropriate scenes are more common in some places and less so in others. A wedding for instance provides fantastic opportunities for people photography, and not many for Street.

Olympus Pen or Pen F, which are very small and unobtrusive. When I use my Pen E-PL 7, people do not enough notice I am taking pictures.

I am interested in "Street Photography", although I feel I need advice from more EXPERIENCED "Street Photographers", especially the "DO's & Don'ts", and also a would a DSLR or P&S be more advisable.
I presently have a Nikon AFS-C DX D3300 with a 35mm, 50mm, 18-55, 55-200 lens.
I have read other Posts here at UHH, just would appreciate some "FRESH" insight and Advice on "Street Photography".

I think you have a camera that is just fine, but this guy uses an Olympus em10 mark2 and mostly the Olympus 17mm 1.8. The combo is very small

Quite honestly you are not describing Street Photography. The example image is a nice example of people photography and might be called envirnmental portraiture.

All a very reasonable and satisfying genre, but it is not Street Photography.

I sure agree with you on this one.

Street photography is in the eye of the beholder.

That scene does nothing for me, but I’d bet some rich wastrel would pay a fortune for a mural size print of it!

I highly doubt it.

Ha ha, I agree with you. With the many comments on here, not one person agreed with Apaflo that is was Street Photography.

He submitted this photo to another blog, a few years ago, and he got roasted by the group.

Then lets hear why you, who hasn't a clue about Street, explain why it is not Street. Keep in mind whether you like it is not significant. Why is it not Street?

I've used everything from a Nikon D750, D3200, or D300 with 50mm f1.8, to a Sony A6000 with 30mm f2.8, to Canon point and shoot to an iPhone 7 Plus. I just took some pretty good shots in Sydney, Australia with the D750 and 28mm F2.8. The Sony is what I use the most, best combo of features and size. But it really isn't about the gear. I've gotten good pics with all of these.

Because you wouldn’t call BIF landscape, would you? That picture is of a landscape with a car in the middle.

It isn't street because there is no street evident in the picture.

Street noun: A road in a city or town that has buildings that are usually close together along one or both sides.

From the Cambridge University Dictionary

Or this I’d consider street photography.
