In Erich's absence I thought I'd post an MIYL photo that's not part of the weekly contest series. This is Strontian and Loch Sunart. Please edit as you see fit.

Sometimes I enjoy playing with my Chromebook using the online app, befunky (befunky.com, $35/year for all the features). I might have missed a key element along the way...the sun's reflection in the water

Wow. I was beginning to think that I'd posted a shot that didn't have much in the way of possibilities - well, you've proved me wrong . You're right about the sun's reflection, but it won't need much to put it right.

Just as an aside, the element strontium and the mineral strontianite are named after Strontian. Strontianite was discovered in a lead mine to the north of Strontian, and the element strontium was isolated from it.

Befunky's "advanced" features can be a bit confounding (I haven't bothered to learn them), so I dug out my editing laptop.

Detail softening via Topaz Simplify and other filters, then added my own moon via a new layer, then used PS Elements' guided edits section to create the reflection effect.

Thanks, R.G.!

You’re getting good at this Linda - a very nice conversion.

I have been sitting here playing with the image for maybe two hours, and have been having a lot of fun with it. I see a lot more work in both of these in order to get them as I would like, but I decided to show you what I have done so far. Incidentally, you nailed the golden section again. Thanks again for the image to work with!

I like the strong shapes and contrasts of #2 very much!

Thanks Linda. I wish I were more knowledgable with photoshop. I know what I want sometimes, but often find I spend a great deal of time mitigating some of my steps. No better way to practice than on one of R.G.'s images. :)

What an interesting transformation you have made with Be Funky.

I think when we're not emotionally attached, we can be much freer, more fearless

I was genuinely concerned that there may have been a lack of possibilities with this image, but once again you've proved me wrong (feel free to do it again ). Both of your edits could quite comfortably hang in a public place.

You're welcome, fergmark. Once again, any similarity between my composition and preferred ratio divisions is purely coincidental. #2 catches that glowery mood that you sometimes get from mountains, which I suspect isn't as easy or as simple as some might think.

This is such a great site for a beginner to visit and from which I can learn. Thank you all for sharing!
