The motion for Independence was made on the 1st, the actual vote for Independence was on the 2nd, then it took two days to write the Declaration and for Congress to make some edits and a final draft prepared. Then on the 4th the final draft was approved and John Hancock and his secretary signed it. A formal copy was made on parchment which took two weeks then Hancock and most members of Congress signed that copy, several did not sign for some time due to one thing or another and two never signed it at all.

Many of the participants believed that the 2nd would be the holiday but over the years people came to accept the 4th.

John Adams did say he thought the celebration should include "illuminations" (fire works to us).

Nice series, nice pics. May I ask what lens were you using? Bob

Hi Bob, I used a Nikon D850 with a Nikon 24-70 mm, f/2.8 lens. The average exposure was 30+ seconds using Bulb, 24mm, f/16 for the softer shots and f/22 for the fireworks bursts. I used a black card to cover the lens between rockets to achieve multiple fireworks per image. I hope that helps, Dick

Thanks Dick for the info, yes it will help. Have my first digital for fireworks this year. Didn't know if wanted to use telephoto or not. Bob

Definitely use a wide angle. You can crop later, but the fireworks usually cover a large portion of the sky. Set your field of vision on your tripod in advance so you’re not fumbling with the camera aim when the show starts.
