My favorite (from memory), is nowhere to be found:

Don't lose your head
To save a minute.
You need your head,
Your brain is in it.

(These taken "on the fly" through the car window)

Taking a two week road trip on Route 66 from Chicago to L.A. Looking for suggestions from anyone who has done the trip for stops along the way and any must see photo ops!

Winslow Arizona man, got to be their on the corner. There will be a girl my lord in a flat bed Ford slowing down to take a look at you. Don't say maybe.
Don't worry, the corner is well marked, can't miss it.

Hi all,

Once again, thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I honestly didn't think I'd get this many replies. This is great. I wish we had a couple of months to do the the trip. We'll do as much as we can in the two weeks we have.
I have a lot of books, maps, guides, and even an itinerary from a friend who has done the trip. But it's always good to get as much info as possible, especially the things I was not aware of!! So thanks again!!

What you'll find is that every soda shop, Cozy Dog, wigwam, museum, motel, etc, will be stuffed with folks 60-80 years old, doing the same thing... but you'll have a really, really good time.

One of my best road trips- Fairbanks, AK to Tijuana, MX then to the pier in Santa Monica, CA and Rt 66 to Chicago... in a BMW convertible- top down all the way...

Tucumcari, NM has some interesting, past their prime photo ops. Also, the La Posada Hotel in Winslow AZ is a trip back in time and worthy of a visit plus there is that "corner" made famous in that song.

Be sure to "Take it Easy" when yer in Winslow, AZ.

The food isn't always the best, but look too for diners all along the way. One of the closest, as in Springfield, IL, is the Route 66 Mother Road Diner.

I believe their are many, many books out their that take you on a day by day journey with recommended stops. And, I believe recently their is an app for your phone that combines GPS with your travels.
One of the best books I have used it the "Route 66 adventure Handbook" by Drew Knowles. Check it out dude.

Stay in the "Teepees" motel in Holbrook

Iā€™d recommend the Globetrotter Lodge just across the road from the Wigwam - nice rooms, nice breakfast and easy walk to shoot the Wigwam. Also, note that the railroad runs right behind the Wigwam.

Since Route 66 only grazes Kansas, the sites are few. The two more important ones are the Marsh Rainbow Arch Bridge outside of Riverton (the sole surviving bridge of this type on the entire length of Route 66) and the Baxter Springs Heritage Center & Museum as a starting point for learning about Quantill's murderous attack and directions.

Skip it if you can. Seriously, I went through once (albeit, south to north) there wasn't much worth seeing. Dodge City is just a tourist trap.
