So basically you use one addiction to treat another addiction.
I guess someone might be called a : Pixel Pusher.
Sadly, I was never able to force/persuade interest in any kind of hobby to my kids or grandkids. Luckily they've all found something they like more than sitting around a video screen.

I learned to understand and even operated successfully under the "Perception is Reality" concept. At its most basic, non-manipulative (AKA Corporate) meaning, people are as people do (Thanks Forrest). If their perception of photography is camera phone captured and stored images, then that's what it IS! To them. Introducing a camera that costs as much or MORE than their $700-$1,000 Cell Phone, but in their mind dies essentially the same thing seems pointless. Same with High Fidelity music reproduction vs. in the ear blasting away (and hearing loss).
Let's enjoy what we enjoy. And let the "kids" do what they do. We can enjoy and criticize each other from afar. Someday, quite likely, someone will ask, "How come my pictures are blurry" (reminiscent of a weekly HHH post). And apart from saying Post The EXIF, perhaps a little coaching on hand holding or tripod use could help bring the worlds closer. It isn't the photography that's important, nobody gives a damn about your photography (thanks, Ted). But we all need to give a damn about ways to enjoy the multi generational relationships that pictures and photographs engender.

You never know.
If something works, it works. LoL
As a kid, I guess I broke the mold then in getting inspiration for my photography.

Yes you teach all the good and honest, respect for all, morals, & love that you can...but once they leave the nest, its up to them. Thankfully, we did ok, I have no thieves, murderers, rapist, drug dealers, etc. etc., no "law breakers" in the group...but photographers...well, no.
I thought it was humorous. Still do.
Cheers

This is because you taught the right from wrong.
Today those thing are not being done.
Just watch the news.

Oh believe me, I watch the news (from all angles) and I appreciate where the kids/g-kids are....
I hope some can interest their kids/g-kids in the hobby & or business of photography.....I still find it completely relevant, and thoroughly enjoy all aspects of it....still fun!
I'm fortunate in that my son is very into photography (we'll see about the grandkids in time). He has managed to "steal" all of my Leica film gear and is madly scanning negs. Hopefully the grandkids will see all of this and follow suit. If not, well, that's up to them.

Unless they get so frustrated with it that they sell the camera equipment just to buy drugs.
