As Shakespeare wrote: "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances." Photographing the ruins of a great church complex in Gary, IN, as soon as I saw this, the thought came to mind and the scene a near-perfect visual expression of it.

Great image Bob - really portrays the end of an era here.

I love this. It immediately focuses attention on the stage but as you take it in you begin see all the little details in the ceiling and on either side the in such detail. It’s beautiful and thought provoking.

WoW! A smorgasbord for the eyes! thought provoking, mesmerizing. Enjoyed taking the time to really look at this. And it does lend itself beautifully with The Bard's quote!

Impressive! Even better than what I was expecting after initially reading the title. Very moody.

The lighting caught me right off the bat. I'm wondering if the source is a hole in the roof? The foreground and the background are darker, and the "spot" is on the area right in front of the stage. Creates an interesting scene and tells a story about what used to be. Well seen.

I think one of the reasons why ruins of homes, castles, fortresses and the like are evocative is because they're places that have echoes of dramas played out in a former era. I would say that's what's evocative about this image. Regardless of what the exact nature of the dramas was, it's still all about drama being played out. And since it is a former church, all human life is here - hatches, matches and dispatches.

Humm... wrath of God !!
This is a photo ripe for cropping out multi images... stage left, stage....
Of course the dark fore ground has nothing to do with any message, whack it out ....

A great find Bob and well played out !!! Kinda like the "Last Picture Show" and an “end of an era”. The way you have composed this image with the dark foreground leading to the light draws me in for a great has been performance.

Highly engaging! So full of rich details for the imagination to ponder. The lighting is wonderful. Normally I would ask how much is natural, how much your own doing - just out of curiosity - but the "how" seems totally irrelevant; I don't want the magic disturbed.

I am assuming that this is an exterior, shot back within an adjacent interior.

Although it seems that way, it is not. It's an interior shot. Here's a shot of some of the exterior. The section in this photo is an adjunct to the church itself. There are fireplaces in meeting rooms, the theater..... It must have been incredible.

ebrunner was right, that the collapsed roof let in some of the light.
