I bought this lens yesterday. It was a brand new kit lens (which the buyer of the camera didn't want), from a local camera store. The price was great ($799.00 Cdn.) and with the usual five year warranty.

In four days I will be in Newfoundland and will bring this lens, with a handful of my other lenses. In September I will be travelling to Austria and plan taking only one lens and it will be the new Nikon 24-120mm with my D5.

I am curious if you own this lens, are you happy with it?

I have just finished 4 weeks in Italy, and then 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal carrying only the 24-120mm f/4 Nikon glass as well as the 70-200mm f/4. They are used on a D-810 and a D-850. I have no qualms about the quality of the images (except when operator error creeps into the equation).

HTH.

I use it with my d750 - like it a lot. My other lens is a 28-300, which does ok, but not as well as the 24-120. Neither is perfect, photography always seems be a compromise, especially if you don't deal with the prime lenses.. which also has compromises.................. :-)

Bought as Kit on my D750 - results have been great. Also stuck it on my D500 to shoot my son's basketball games. Turned out to be a great focal length for basketball. Good luck.

I found Ken Rockwell's comment to be very interesting. I do not own this lens but do have the 28-300 and use it all the time. I have a D810.

"Get the 28-300mm VR. I did. I bought both of these, and sent back the 24-120mm as redundant. The 28-300mm VR is as good, and goes all the way to 300mm, for less money.
The 28-300mm VR was announced on the same day, costs less and does more. I prefer my 28-300mm over the 24-120mm because of the much longer zoom range. They are equally as sharp. While the 24-120 weighs a little less, I'd have to carry a second telephoto zoom with it, so the 28-300mm wins again. I don't find any value in the slightly faster speed at 120mm (f/4 vs f/5.4) or the slightly wider 24mm versus 28mm wide end, and I find a huge value in $150 more in my pocket and a two-and-a-half times longer zoom range in my 28-300mm. Personally I think Nikon dresses-up the 24-120 to make a lot more profit selling you less lens for more money.
This new 24-120 is a great lens, but the 28-300mm VR goes 2.5 times longer, with little increase in size or weight, for less money."

That is the only lens that I carried with the 810 on my last trip to Europe. Fantastic lens.

I have both the 24 - 120 mm f4; the 28-300 and a 300PF. I'd chose the 24- 120 over the 28 -300 unless I needed to get out of the zoom range. It is sharper and faster focusing. The 28 - 300 does have it's place and you do get more reach. There is a pro I've seen on DP Review that has used it for major magazine fashion shoots, so it is not slouch.

I have had this lens since 2013 and use it on my D800. It is always on the camera unless I am shooting something that requires and/or I want to use a different lens. I have had very good results with this lens and would recommend it. Here is a link to a review of the lens. The original review of the lens was done November 2010 and updated on May 2, 2018. Included in the review are photos shot with a D3S, D4, D800E, and a D810. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-24-120mm-f4g-vr

Here also is his review of the D850, which also includes images shot with the 24-120mm f4 as well. https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-d850

I use that lens with a D750 and have been very satisfied with its performance. Mostly with landscapes and some flowers. As far as versatility, I rarely take it off my D750 except for a Sigma 150-600 and a 16mm 2.8 used on birding and night photography respectively.

My wife and I have traveled around the globe for the past two years. As my walkaround combo of choice, my d610 and 24-120 F4 has delivered 1000s of great shots in just about any situation. Mine is a keeper.

Yes, I've been using this lens as my "go around" lens on my D-750. It is sharp and fast focusing.
I'm very happy with it. In my bag with the camera I have the 24-120 and as spare I have a 70-300.
Have a nice trip and enjoy it.

I enjoy it. Good travel lens, especially on the days you are only bringing one.

This is one of the better walking-around lenses for DX or FX.

I would be interested in the replies you get because I have kicked this lens around for my FX camera too.

I've had that lens on my d750 and love it. My only comment would be that it gets a little heavy after awhile.

It is a bit heavy to carry around all day long on a full frame camera. My much older 28-105 AF D is much smaller and lighter, a bit sharper at the shorter focal lengths up to about 85mm, and has much less distortion, but I need the 24mm wide end, and the older lens lacks VR. Those two issues are why I replaced it (but kept it). The VR on the lens being discussed works very well.

This stays on my D750 most of the time. Love it.
