Has anyone updated to the new release by DxO of the Nik software?
If so, any problems?

Have LR 6 (have Disc - not subscription based at this point); PSE 13 on a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop.

Thank you - and if you have heard anything positive or negative.

John

Damned if I am going to pay for it again... I already have the entire suite and it works just fine.

Is my reaction also - once you do, there will be other changes, and on and on. Its works great, why change. Was just wondering. Thank you however for reinforcing my thoughts!!

Mine work too, but at some time it will not. I am going to update just to be sure AND to support DXO—sort of a thank you for ensuring compatibility going forward.

I agree about updating to be current and also supporting DXO. Although I am an Adobe PSCC user, I find the Nik software very useful and shortens my PP time tremendously, as does DXO viewpoint.

A friend of mine updated the new Nik collection from DXO and it wipes out the old one. Be careful if you have presets there gone. Back up the old one.

That could be a hard sell, unless there have been huge improvements.

I read that is only compatible with Photoshop Elements 17/18. I have 14 and Nik and a few other plug ins. Even if it were compatible with 14 I would not upgrade. The old “ don’t fix what isn’t broken”.

I run Photoshop 2018 on an iMac and when Apple did the latest update (also could be Adobe for their Mac version) Nik stopped working correctly. DXO's version of the Nik collection fixed the problem. I don't see what is wrong with a company picking up orphaned software and supporting it and $50 is not that much to pay for (hopefully) software that will be maintained, I wished someone had done that for Capture NX-2. The only hesitation is DXO has financial issues and there was talk a while ago about them going belly up.

I have had NIK since the beginning and through the Google acquisition. I'm glad DxO bought it and that they are improving it. I gladly paid the $49 for the more compatible version in hopes that DxO will be successful with it and continue to develop and improve it.

I'm of the opinion that why pay for something when I can accomplish the same thing using my primary processing software.

Additionally, and addressed in another thread, there is no list of improvements or changes DXO has made to the plugin to justify charging for it. There is always the concept that they want to recoup the money they paid to purchase it from Google.

Additionally, why purchase something that can be accomplished without using it?

I purchased the full Nik Collection a very long time ago and have used it in my workflow ever since. I saw the DXO news and sent them a letter asking them if it would benefit me to update since I already had the Full Nik suite of Plugins. Here is the response I received back from them.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the 'Nik Collection by DxO' 2018.

'Nik Collection by DxO' 2018 introduces the following new features:

- Full compatibility with current operating systems and with the latest versions of Photoshop and Lightroom,
- A user interface enhanced with a fully operational Selective Brush tool, new filters and unconstrained dynamic objects.
- Free access to future minor updates (bug fixes ...) and a special reserved price for new major updates, which will include new tools.
- And of course complete customer support.

The original version, purchased from other companies, will continue to work as long as it is used with a compatible OS, or with compatible third-party programs, but it will not be updated any longer, and we will not be able to offer support for this version.

About tutorials, it's an interesting suggestion that I forward to our team.

Kind regards,
Florian - DxO Customer Support

I understand from a friend who did upload the new NIK program from DxO. It wiped out his previous version, and as far as he could see there was no difference in the program.
I have had the whole program for many years. I am not going to pay for it when I already have it.

Has anyone tried the new version with Affinity Photo? I am using the old version and it works well.

The reply that Fstop 12 got from DxO on the Nik software was reason enough for me to update. I have the latest version of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop and want to make sure the old version of Nik still worked. I do have a backup copy of the old Nik software on a thumb drive. Yes it seems to have deleted the old version when I updated. Oh well, saved me the effort to delete it. I did have some problems in trying to download the new version on my FireFox browser and emailed DxO and they suggested I use a different browser, which I did and all worked just fine. As long as they have not altered the Nik programs to much I'm sure all the video tutorials and books I have will still be useful. If Dxo bought the rights to the software and are willing to maintain it I don't have a problem with them charging a small amount to purchase the new version. Programmers cost money.
