The one in the strip district is 24/7.

Been a while since I was there. I believe it used to open at 10pm.

The lookouts from Mt. Washington and from the Elliott West End parks give great, iconic views and are worth visiting both during the daytime and at night. The tour boat rides beginning in Station Square and the Incline rides also give great photo ops and views as well as a nice taste of local history. The PPG Place plaza in downtown has amazing reflections in the glass towers of the skyscrapers. Lawrence and The Strip are good places for street photography. And no matter where you go in the greater downtown area, their are great restaurants and cafes.

For the Heinz, bring a fast lens. It is a little darkish from my recollection and the architecture is not bounce flash friendly. But it is a quite interesting.

Oh! Take a trip down to Kennywood Park in West Mifflin. One of the only two parks that are National Historic Landmarks! Some of the best wooden roller-coasters in the world! The Thunderbolt turns 50 this year!

My wife and I are headed north in 2 weeks to Pittsburg. As first time visitors, we plan to catch a Pirate ballgame and go to the Pittsburg Zoo. I would like some other photo-op suggestions for the city (i.e. picturesque neighborhoods, downtown sites, etc.). Please give me some suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated.

If you are going "north" to Pittsburgh, you should pass pretty close by to Fallingwater. You should check it out. Cameras love it.

Before you go, look at W. Eugene Smith's photos in Dream Street (https://www.amazon.com/Dream-Street-Eugene-Pittsburgh-Project/dp/0393325121) for inspiration.

I moved to Pittsburgh in 1959 to go to grad school at Carnegie Tech, and came across some of these photos in a magazine shortly before I moved. I left Pittsburgh four years later, but the photos gave me a feeling for the city that has lasted ever since. The steel mills are long gone, but the psychic residue has lasted (a sight of the moon meant disaster - the mills were on strike). The ethnic communities remain much the same - I married into an Italian family, and that helped a lot.

Right! I think Pittsburg is in Kansas and Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania.

My one and only trip to Pittsburgh was in 1982 as the steel industry was struggling. I stopped at the Duquesne Incline very late in the evening and was invited by the operator to take a look at the gearing and sprockets with wooden teeth. If like me you’re a nut about mechanics you will find it interesting. A shot there might make a good art print. Also the top of this incline was voted one of the top ten places in the world to get a good cityscape shot.
