Noct is not new to Nikon, but possibly not registered in the EU.

The Noct NIKKOR released in 1977 was modified to "Ai-S" in 1982, and terminated in 1997, one year after the release of Nikon F5.

The article mentions that
article wrote:
Nikon itself has used “Noct” in the past. The company’s Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 lens, one of the fastest it has ever produced, was a legendary lens prized for its optics.

The relevance here is that Nikon apparently plans to resurrect the term.

If they are only registering the trademark now it could be years before the product (whatever it is) hits the stores.

I wonder if it has something to do with the F/0.9 and F/1.2 lenses for which they registered patents?

The original Noct ---

"The Noct-NIKKOR 58mm f/1.2 is one of the very few lenses that has had a very special status among all lenses manufactured by Nikon to date. It is the only lens in the world that is immediately recognized by a single word “Noct” (which stands for “Nocturne“) and experienced Nikon shooters typically have interesting stories and tails surrounding this little gem."

Or it could be that the product is ready to rollout. In the last year or so, the first hint Pentax users have had that a new camera is ready for rollout is when they register the WiFi .... which usually happens just a couple of weeks before announcement.
