I was reading that once the forest service lifts the ban, the D&S will be using diesel power for their trains until the threat is over.
In Colfax County NM there have been about 30,000 acres burned since Thursday including trees and grass land. If you were a Boy Scout, Colfax County is were the Philmont Boy Scout ranch is located. It and the nearby Hamlet of Cimarron are threatened. This fire and the one near Durango are about 250 miles apart with the Cumbres & Toltec RR just about half way between them. The continuing drought has turned the entire 4 corners area into a tinder box.
It just wouldn't be the same taking the D&S behind a diesel.
