This was a new find for me at the Viera Wetlands two weeks ago - they are sporadically seen but I had not seen one up close - not close enough to get a good photo, anyway.

Similar to a bittern. The American bittern is about this size and has very similar markings but has a longer neck. The least bittern is quite a bit smaller.
