Talimena Sunset

Shot about three weeks ago 15-miles east of Mena, Ar. I'm still learning how to use ND filters, and visualize in color. Until one hour before shooting there was a large gathering of clouds breaking up throughout the horizon. And, just like that, they were gone.

D750; Nikkor Af-s 24-85; B&W CP; B&W ND-3

The layers and color make this a very appealing shot!

Nice shot. It certainly doesn't bring Oklahoma to mind.

Thanks! I'm starting to wish I'd had time to play with ND's back in the film days.

Yeah--and they were there in the original. LR/PS helped some, but more as a guide instead of a recreation.
Thank you!

Not even with the knowlege it's a couple of hours south of you does it bring Ok to mind. As I thumbed through the raws on LR my wife's comment was similar, "That's not what I saw while you were shooting." With the forests fading into the hills one doesn't get a sense of the actual timber stands.

Quick note--I missed the real shot. This was a rare day-off, so mid-afternoon we started driving the overlooks along the drive. At one point we found site facing almost due east back towards Arkansas. While there I noted the spot would be ideal for an early evening moon rise. But, I was focused on a sunset, so we moved along. OF COURSE, while I'm starting to setup for the shot above I look over my shoulder (still daylight) and see the moon rising above the hill behind me. Drats--too late to drive the 8-miles back to the earlier noted site. I really didn't realize we were in a full moon phase. Alas, I now have "The Moon" app on my iPhone which gives me the phases for any day in the future.

Thanks for the feedback!

Not even with the knowlege it's a couple of hours ... (show quote)

About 30 years ago we made the trip south one Friday night intending to spend all day shooting the scenery. We awoke to fog so thick you could only see about 100' ahead of you. It ended up like that all day long. So, only shots of the fog and some of the forest from very close up.

Fast forward 20 years and we made the same trip. Once again, pea soup fog all day.

One of these days we will make it. We might have to stay several days, but we will see the Talimena Drive end to end.
