Remote shutter control on Nikon D500

I bought a Pixel TW283 wireless remote control. It also can be used with the cable and not going through the wireless. The problem is that it will focus the camera when the button is pushed halfway but pushing it all the way does nothing. No shutter release. I am baffled. Might I have a bad unit? Is there a camera setting that needs to be a certain way?

Camera on tripod, Focus on subject with the Pixel RC, and if the Pixel RC does not fire the shutter, press the shutter by hand. Will the shutter now fire (without touching any other controls), or is still "frozen".

Ensure AF-ON is not set (Back button Focus).

Take the batteries out from both components of the RC, wait and put them back in (to reset the RC)

Ensure the jack plug in the camera module is fully home.

I use Pixel RC's on three cameras and find them reliable. When they go wrong it's usually something silly (except mine won't work at all when Back Button Focus is invoked.

"The remote has an LED in the corner that shows its operating status (Green for focus, Red for shutter)."

Have you checked the status? That little gadget has a lot of options. It could be as simple as a wrong selection. Lots of online help that might save you the inconvenience of returning it ... or not.

Good luck.

Yes, it shows the status and a light for focus and a light for shutter. It focuses ok. That's why I think something must be wrong with the unit.
