I have Direct TV but I am afraid it will be exactly the same with other TV services. In the first place, they all offer a bunch of TV channels of which the majority of us NEVER use. We usually watch perhaps 4 of them and that is it.
I love baseball but instead I get golf, school softball or poker games. If I want to watch baseball, yes you guessed it right, I have to pay more.
If I was offered the service of one of these TV business I would be happy selecting perhaps those 4 stations I talked about and my baseball channel. I do not need 40 more channels that I never watch....and as soon as my contract is over they raise the price and keep on doing so periodically. Yes, a scam like any other.

I subscribe to Dish because it offers "TV Japan" which the others do not.

I have Direct TV and overall I'm happy with it. The cable company in this area has a monopoly since their are no other cable outlets here. They pretty much charge what they want. Another option for me is Dish network, I had them about two years ago and was charmed away with a money saving option for one year. Comparing the two I believe I like dish better because they have twice the memory on their hard drive and I can save twice as much. My present hard drive is about 90% full so I have to delete something to record another show. Now my two year subscription is up in August of this year and I will probably go back to Dish, there's not much difference in programming but their customer service was better. Hope this helps, if I can answer anything else I will certainly try to help.

There're all the same...i have Cable and i get about 100 plus channels. I never go more than 15 channels. Why can't they just make it Ala Carte. I'd pay for the stations i want. (that will never happen)

I used to have Dish, but at that time Dish did not offer local channels in HD and DirecTv did. They kept lying to me that it would be offered very soon, but I talked to a TV repair guy who knew someone in the company and he said that that was a lie. So I switched to DirecTv. Before they were taken over by AT&T, when you called for technical support, you got someone who really knew what he was talking about, but now, not so much. They do have a beautiful 4k channel. Maybe check Consumer Reports for their survey of subscriber satisfaction.

I use an antenna with my "smart TV." I get over two dozen actual channels including Mr. Ed, Sea Hunt and current stuff as well. My daughter has Direct TV and I can't wait to get home to "normal."

We use DIRECTV at my house. I like it a lot except for one thing. Their billing can be kind of crazy. Every month I have to call them and go over my billing because of some mistake they make. I’ve been using it since March. Are used to use DIRECTV from 1999 till 2010. I have an antenna and away record over to your television. Then I decided last March to get DIRECTV because they have a special for $30 a month for a year. So far so good except for the billing.

WE had direct for a long time, local cable before that, when we switched from cable to Direct the picture and choice and deal were all much better, got tired of the black outs in storms, extended black outs when snow accumulated on the dish, the deal got worse, switched to FIOS, overall not happy, EXPENSIVE, slow internet, they want more $$ to speed it up, not so happy with channel selection, when contract is up will try Spectrum, have that at the summer cabin, better overall, less expensive, faster internet, Bob.

True. Like banks, cable companies spend a fortune hiring companies to find ways to get more money out of us. It's very easy to add to a service, but almost impossible to drop what we don't want. Very often, eliminating something will raise the monthly bill. Speaking of the monthly bill, it will continue to rise.

We ditched everything over a year ago and got an antenna. We got tired of deteriorating servie and increased prices. We have a smart TV and added Netflix and have SlingTV. The only thing we miss is the Tennis Channel, but ESPN has most of the majors so we’re able to watch them. Our monthly bill comes to around $35.

I had DirecTV for 15 years. Add up what I spent! At one time it was encouraged to have it in both your house and RV or cabin. One day my receiver in the RV broke due to old age. They refused to send me one because I was "not at home". Rules had changed and I had become an "illegal" by transporting my box. I canceled the account.

My RV friends say DirecTV is getting worse under AT&T ownership. They can't even get bad customer service. Their solution is to switch to Dish.

I agree regarding customer service. It takes about three phone transfers to get to the right department. First person answers is in the Philippines. Tell them immediately that you want to talk to a certain department and they make you go through a list of questions before I have Apsley transfer you. Then the next apartment seriously the wrong one but at least you’re on this side of the ocean. Anyways their customer service sucks. Are used to be very good.

I should probably add that the part I liked the most was recording shows and skipping through ads. I found a Channel Master recorder that works with an antenna. It has the same sort of guide that DirecTV had. It is in HD too! TV really can be free!

HD Homerun and TiVo work well with OTA Antenna.
