Stopped by the SS United States, which has been docked in Philly for years.
She held the record for trans atlantic time. She still holds it for a large ship.

My Grandfather and Grandmother, who were born in the 1890s would not fly, and took the SS. US from New York to France as part of a long journey going back to Greece in the 60's.

I was almost 11 years old when I traveled with my parents to New York City. The SS United States' maiden voyage was July 4, 1952, and we were there to see her off. First time I'd ever heard a ship's horn; loud doesn't even describe it! She was beautiful then; pity it's not much more than scrap metal now...

Watched the video, what a beautiful vessel, a far cry from the monstrosities that cruise the seas today! In 1969, while serving aboard the USCG Cutter Morgenthau, we escorted the QE 2 into New York Harbor on her maiden voyage. She, too, was an aesthetically pleasing and sleek ship.

I have to agree modern cruse liners are just foul looking POS.
