"Skookum"! The Baby Sister to The Big Boy locomotive in the Oregon-Photographers Special Run
Jay Pat
Loc: Round Rock, Texas, USA
I saw this locomotive in the Oregon Coast Scenic RR shop under restoration in 2015.
It is an articulated, locomotive. There are two engines under one boiler.
The front engine can move side to side as the locomotive goes around tight curves.
The steam goes to the rear engine first and then piped to the front engine to be used again. Although there is less pressure, the size of the cylinders make up for it.
I just heard there are 29 seats left for this event.
This special will take place March 17-18 2019. Anyone should be able to go out there and get some images at the rail station in Garibaldi.
I do not know when any test runs will take place.
Most unusual locomotive. I'm guessing it will be refitted to burn fuel oil.
After this run, it will be moved to California for a private owner.
