Just to clarify, I am NOT a bird photographer. I'm not even a birder. I love listening to them sing, but I can rarely see them, let alone get my camera trained on them. When I try, they end up looking like a dark, fuzzy blob. But my friends were going birding and took me along. They know all the names - even of all the types of sparrows!
I can't say what I got was wonderful, but I'm really pleased with them, as at least they're recognizable! I used my 5D Mk III and my 75-300. Its an old lens and the IS isn't perfect. I should have carried the 1D with the 28-300, as it's a bit sharper. But I was afraid the weight would keep me from being able to be out all day.
They won't stand up to pixel peeping. I'm so envious of all of you who get such beautiful images - you can see each individual feather! I'm just happy to get something recognizable! Comments welcome.

Not bad at all for a "non birder".

Thank you, CPO. That's encouraging!
Thanks so much, Mike. I do feel quite challenged to do birds - when I see them! I just normally fail miserably!
You did good for not being a birder, Kathy!!! I especially like the last shot and I've never seen a painted bunting!!
Don't you have an SX50??? If you do, you should definitely use that the next time you go birding!!

You should be proud of them Kathy for a first try. A nice mix of birds.

Thanks, Angela. It was a hoot! Yes, I have an SX50. I've never thought about using it. I'm afraid it might be a bit slow.

Truth be told, Sylvia, I am sort of proud of them. I might actually get enough courage to try it again. Thanks!

I've never shot a bird in flight with it... but then again I've never shot any BIF... but if the bird is posing for you, it's the best camera ever!!!

I will try it. It does have more "reach" than my 75-300.
Very nice...you did good.
Sharpness isn't really an issue when you're not close enough to see something like feather detail or a catch light in the eye.

Thank you. I would have loved to have been able to zoom in on that painted bunting. But I really sort of liked him in his habitat. Of course, I could crop it.
