Ipad question

For the amount of events I've done I thought this was a simple answer. After all, figuring out photo problems is part of our job! Here's something I've never come across concerning an Ipad.

Besides all the other photos and pictures in a wedding, the client wants copies for use on their iPhone also. Mind you those will be only the ones that have been accepted, not everything, and also in "simple" jpeg form. My question to those here is, what is a method to get the photos on an Ipad?

Normally in that case, I would just put them on a memory card for them to transfer. Now I find out the Ipad doesn't have memory card slot, or maybe it does somewhere but I don't have time to find out as the wedding is to take place in a week. Afterwards I'll have time to do a direct transfer if that will work.

I have never touched an Ipad before so I'm open to your suggestions. How would I put images directly on an Ipad?

I use a USB cable with my 'droid tablet to transfer images.

There’s a small “rat tail” adapter that plugs into where you charge an iPad. (If I can find it. I’ll take a photo of it) The other end has a card reader. I rarely use it anymore: The way I do it is via WiFi. I download directly from my camera to the iPad.

You can connect the iPad to a Mac or Windows computer via USB cable. The iPad will show up as an external drive on the computer. You then just drag and drop the photos onto the iPad.

You can also upload the photos to a web site and open them in Safari. But to save them to the iPad's camera roll you would need to tap and hold each phot and select save photo from the pop up menu. The cable is by far easier and quicker.

I'm assuming they are interested in having them on their iPad. You can ask them if they have a Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader. If so, you can just give them a memory card. This device is proprietary to Apple, of course, and cost 29 dollars at Apple store. Just a card reader for iPad. I got one when we went on vacation so I could download my pics and see them in the evening when we got back to our room. Sorry, they also sell them at Best Buy, Target, etc.

Yeah I also have the lightning to SD card reader, but can’t locate it. I use a wireless app on my iPad. Very convenient and actually not as slow as some will say.

However you export the images, set them at 3000 pixels for the long edge (very easy in Lightroom). This is the iPad's Retina display sizing.

This is the card reader dongle for an I pad. This is for an iPad Pro, but may work on other iPads too. Amazon prime.

Simplest way would be to upload the images to Amazon Photos, create an album, and send a share link to anyone. They would all be there in thumbnails, downloadable full size.

For older iPads there is a similar dongle but with the older, larger lightning connector so you need to know iPad II, Air, etc.

I have a 5 year old IPad that I recently took to the field to view pictures after a couple of hours of shooting. The Apple card reader works well although the transfer rate was a little slow.

I. Have the WiFi adapter and the lightning dongle card reader but the easiest way is to email the photos to the email on the iPad. Then the user just opens the email and chooses save to iPad to keep a permanent copy. If there is only a couple dozen pics this goes very quickly and is cheap, as it costs nothing.

If you will be doing this on a regular basis buy the lightning to photo adapter or the WiFi adapter.

I think the simplest thing, assuming the photos are not to large, is to email them to him, after which he can save these to the photo section of the IPAD
