May I humbly suggest a used Nikon P7800? That has been my "back country" camera for the past number of years and I am very pleased with it.
It's not overly heavy, or large, nice zoom range, and a satisfying DLSR feel to it. Plus it has an articulating LCD.
After complimenting this camera, for this year's trip I am trying out my new Lumix ZS100. I may miss my Nikon though, but gotta try out the new toy.

Would definitely agree with Hardware Guy. I loved mine and was still learning its features when my grand daughter needed a "real" camera, no camera phones, for a
photography class her freshman year in college. I gifted it to her but kinda wish I had bought her one. Has a viewfinder which helps outdoors on bright days, shoots raw or jpeg,
has articulating screen, 7X zoom as I recall so 200mm equivalent, fits in cargo short pocket. Just a nice camera if you can find a used one.
