Decent printers are in the 1440-2880 dpi range, so a printer at only 600dpi might not be that great.
Costco uses professional wide-format printers that produce excellent prints.
There is connection between dpi and ppi. The ppi is always less because the printer only has a small number of inks. But with the same 4 ink the higher the dpi the higher the ppi. With more ink colors it's possible to have more ppi without increasing the dpi. The ppi is always less than the ppi. However printer like dye sub the dpi and ppi are the same.
