Great Blue Herons

These two pioneers are nesting in a new location away from the crowded tree occupied by their brethren. A bit close to a workshop building. Hope it works.

Nikon D500 with 300mm f4 VR PF lens. ISO 200, f4 1/3200 or 1/2500 sec.

In the next to last shot a Cooper's Hawk drives the herons off. But they returned an hour later and continued nest building.

A very nice set! Looks like you may have a future with this pair, if they succeed.

Very nice! Looks like you’ve got some great sight-lines. I’m still learning (and have to climb a neighbor’s second-story house to even SEE the nest....but what a joy it is to follow these guys!

The main heron nesting tree in this area is 250 yards away from the closest point a photographer can approach. Seeing these two birds in a different and much closer tree was a surprise and a delight. The only drawback is that the nest itself is completely obscured by foliage.

These are great. Catching the cooper's hawk was an added bonus, I'm guessing.

I got lots of shots of the Cooper's hawk both by itself and contending with crows and seagulls. Very entertaining. Will post soon.
