Just on of the thousands of street porters that are the commercial lifeblood of Kolkata.

Nice shot. The folks in Street Photography would also appreciate this one.

Stoic, determined. His expression is so compelling that I'd like to see him even more dominant in the frame - a slight crop on left and right (keeping the man closest to him in background). Two additional points that make this a powerful image for me is that the bundles continue right up out of the frame at top, leaving much to our imagination, and the face-on perspective you achieved.

Thanks, Linda. My reason for not cropping in closer is that I feel it gives more depth to the picture and, as you know, I like to include a sense of place in my pictures.

Depth = seeing the distance traveled, and our imagining the long journey remaining? A sense of place is always very strong in your photos, Graham. This time I just found myself so drawn to his expression, the surrounding street wasn't as important. Great to see you, btw!

Very expressive photo. I think it is all about the look on the man's face and his considerable burden. I noticed that the area of sharp focus is directly on his face. Well done. He is completely centered in the frame. Did you consider a crop that would eliminate some of the people behind the bike? It would take him out of the center and give more room for him to be moving into the frame. The downside is that it would eliminate the people in the background who do provided context for the photo. Just wondering what your thoughts were in this area.

Thanks, Erich, I do prefer for my pictures to have plenty of context. I like to include enough stuff to give a clear indication of the persons' environment.

I’m in the ‘leave it as it is’ camp with this one Graham - the locals, the shops, the burden and the tricycle all contribute to the sense of place, and very nicely done too.

That makes perfect sense to me. It's a very good photo and that giant load defies imagination. Thanks

I tend to take a journalistic approach to my photography which is, in no small part, influenced by my reasons for visiting India.

It's quite a burden. It would be fascinating to see what's in those eyes. I wonder if the man behind him is looking at him or you.
