Ok I know a DSLR has a mirror by definition but couldn't all the features of mirrorless be embedded in a DSLR? (Evf may be an issue)
Reason i ask is I would like a FF DSLR that has the features of mirrorless but take my lenses natively. Like the body size of dslr also.
Would like the option of evf but not a deal breaker....thoughts?

The thing is, "reflex" requires a mirror. That's part of the definition.

What features of mirrorless would you like, if not the smaller size?

Sony A-mount is like a DSLR but has an evf and full time live view pdaf focus. Can use both Sony A-mount lenses and Minolta af lenses.

As long as an adapter retains all the features I'd be happy. I'm curious to see what Nikon comes up with. They are taking their sweet time, so hopefully they will have something innovative.

I believe this answer https://www.dpreview.com/news/6645869398/nikon-manager-confirms-new-mirrorless-system-coming-by-spring-2019?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2018-may-01&ref_=pe_1822230_282965140_dpr_nl_312_20 . The major problem is it will not take our existing lenses.

This is actually old information. Pentax has / had a Mirrorless camera they barely advertised that is next to impossible to find, the Pentax K-01. It is a APS-C format digital camera that has the modern common Pentax K-mount and can utilize directly all Pentax K-series lenses. And retains Auto features for -A, -FA, -DA and such lenses.

Try using MUP setting. Use the back of the camera for the view finder. Vioila mirror is bypassed.

Your only option is Sony if you want FF. You can use your lenses with an adaptor/speedbooster.

Canon and Nikon are at least 2 years out from producing a non version 1 ff mirrorless camera.

In other words you want a mirrorless with a mount that fits your lenses, assuming all your lenses are the same mount, and all the features of the lenses would be compatible with the camera. Right?

Simple answer is, “No, not really.”

Everyone seems hung up on the idea that their old lenses ought to work “natively” with a mirrorless body.

Well, I do understand the cost factor, but unfortunately you reap a lot fewer of the real benefits of mirrorless design by not moving to lenses engineered specifically for the new platform.

Could you elaborate? I understand weight, but what about all the technological advances? Do the newer lenses have something that lets them make better use of the new features?

I had already read that...notice I said Not Version 1. They are going to have some bugs to work out and they're going to use all you Nikon chumps that have been waiting for a sub-par performing mirrorless camera by nikon. I still stand by my comment. 2 years until they have "pro" mirrorless camera that's better or equal to what is on the market that you can readily buy today.

Things are always changing, same with cameras. And these changes are usually market dirven. There is an expression in business-"if you are not changing your'e falling behind". Who knows what changes cameras will go through. When I started in the cardiovascular implant biz. They used discrete components, now they are bassically implanted computers that can communicate with external follow up devices, and last 10 years, as opposed to 3 if you were lucky. !0years from now, there may not even be cameras.
