And the newest addition to my pro lens lineup of L's and Arts.
Wait for it...

YONGNUO 35mmF2 !!

...performs as advertised...crappy :-)

But if yoiu don't crop and pixel peep, not too bad. As sharp as my original kit lens for my 70D or better.
Was expecting a little more bokeh for F2.0 but at 35mm. I need to shoot some items closer.

For $100, it not bad at all !

First shot is edited in LR
2nd shot is SOOC.
Center sharpness is decent and the fall away is quick !
Good lens for art and just playing around. My way of checking to see if I want to spend 2-3K on an L lens.

Well if you get tired of it, the Canon EF 35 f2 USM IS, while considerably more expensive, is a tack sharp lens and substantially less expensive than most “Ls”.

DOF seems a bit limited but at that price, a clear winner.

Very nice bokeh, looks excellent for a 35mm.

I am going to take a guess and say for the first picture you may have been around 20" from the coffee cup - DoF is only .93" - on the second image you might have been slightly further away, maybe 22"-24" - DoF is 1.35" at 24". The first shot of the cup has decent enough sharpness for the front part of the cup, and with such shallow DoF, you have less than 1/2" before sharpness gets really bad. Your actual DoF of great sharpness is probably .5" if you are very critical.

In the second picture, you are looking slightly down and even though your distance is a little longer, looking at the Martinson's pods, you apparently focused at the third from the top there is a noticeable loss of focus with the top one and the ones below, which is totally consistent with DoF at that distance and aperture.

While the sharpness not stellar, it is still quite good, and at F2, you should expect shallow DoF which seems to look like sharpness dropoff into the corners and edges - but I think while that still may be somewhat true, the drop is also related to the slight angle downward.

The bokeh is really good, btw. If you are really concerned about sharpness across the field, tape a page from the newspaper on the wall, put the camera on a tripod, ensure that the camera is level and square to the page, and test your camera with this flat subject. To a great degree, what you discover will not likely affect the good image quality of this lens. The subjects we shoot are rarely flat. . . .

All true and consistent with reviews online.
For $100, ($88us) this is a great little lens since the center sharpnes is still pretty good and as you said, the dof at f2 is shallow so sharpness away from center is less of an issue since the subject will be blurred anyway. Only issue is the bokeh balls will be fuzzier.

Your first photo is excellent but you could increase D.O.F. by another stop or two (but it might interfere with the bokeh you were trying to get!).

The second photo has back light which cuts down on the details of the exhibit and again you could deepen your DOF.

I have that lens and it is as good as any 35mm f/2 lens made, I like it; in fact I have one more - the 100mm f/2 Yongnuo. For that price and quality I had to have them! Only thing, I don't have Lightroom and I'm determined to live without it (too much work for me!).

Thanks for the feedback.
I am only interested in shooting this lens wide open. Otherwise, I would use my 24-70f4L IS which is sharp corner to corner.
This little lens will be reserved for some very special low light situations where I want more context than my 50mm F1.4 can provide and am shooting center focused subject.

My test shots were to see what center detail (2nd) it could resolve and how clean the bokeh was (1st)

Pretty decent results and I think you also agree. (No crop and no pixel peeping of course). Slow and noisy AF but its a 25yr old design...
Whaddya want for 100 bucks :-)

Yes, this lens is great for walk around shooting. Your 50mm f/1.4 is a FINE lens and provides good bokeh (by focusing with your feet). Now, I have a portrait lens - the Opteka 85mm f/1.8 manual focus only for shooting portraits although I'd like to have a Yongnuo 85mm f/2 with auto focus and manual focus. These lenses are inexpensive and does the work of much more expensive ones and you can do great bokeh!

I have used this strategy to see what "real money" lenses I wished to buy. Fortunately I was able to even find used Nikkors on Ebay. Examples: 35-70 f3.5-4.5 for $17 plus S&H and a 70-300 f4.5-5.6 for $30 w/ free shipping. From what I learned, I bought a good 70-200 F4.0; a 300 f4.0 and decided to pass on the upscale 35-70 or 28-70 focal length range.
