I can't post a link right now because of management's "do not post verified info where people might see it policy", but apparently DxO Labs is having financial issues. Is some of this entity's cash inflow used to keep DxOMark going?? - that could partially explain why we've heard nothing from DxOMark about the Pentax KP, which has been out for a year now.

I worked for a defense contractor that was acquired by a previous competitor. Several years later management amazed engineers by admitting integrating the two organizations was much more difficult than they had expected, and eventually I was laid off along with many others {for awhile, the informal slogan was "cash is king"}. I wonder how often this sort of thing happens.
NIK is very popular here on UHH. I think I'll start a topic....

There's a section for that. If enough people would post pertinent info there, folks wanting to keep up would look there.
Just sayin'

So 'NIK' is more popular than 'DxO'? I hadn't realized that - but the thread you started does seem to be drawing more attention than this one. Personally, I'm always fascinated by DxOMark test results.

NIK and DxO popularity is irrelevant, they are two completely different things. That's kinda like asking if mustard is more popular than hotdogs LOL
DxO is a photo editor, and NIK is a collection of plugins that will provide functions not included in most photo editors. NIK will work with various Photoshop editors, with Corel PaintShop Pro, presumably with DxO, and probably other photo editors I'm not familiar with.
If you Google "google NIK collection" you can find a copy of it to download.

I understand all of that. I was simply noting that a post with 'Nik' in the subject has attracted over 2000 reads while this one has attracted fewer than 500 at the moment - and part of DxO's issues might be that what is now their free product is what gets attention - a business plan needs money from somewhere.
Well actually you are incorrect. DXO PhotoLab is a great Raw Processor and has incorporated NIK Technology into their Raw Processing program and it works great. DXO PhotoLab has the best Raw noise reduction processing on the market by miles, it is not an editor as a matter of fact the Prime Noise Reduction only works with Raw files. Most of the NIK programs work on JPEG files only, with the possible exception of a couple of their modules. NIK modules will work stand alone with most JEPG files just by dragging and dropping a JEPG files on the Module regardless of what RAW Processor or JPEG Editor used.
I for one hope DXO is able to get its problems handled.

Two different entities. DXO Labs which is in receivership in France produces the DXO PhotoLab post processing software and the DXO One camera as well as now owning the NIK collection. The company separated from, and parted ways, with DXOMark around last September. DXOMark and its lens and camera testing and database is still going strong.

Me too. DXO Photolab is my editor of choice. I'm afraid someone like Adobe will buy it for the technology like the sharpening and noise reduction, and then kill it.

I see, said the blind man. I thought you were referring to the popularity of the software. Now I understand you were talking about the popularity of these threads.
I think I may have learned something else, too. I only ever used NIC applications as plugins for Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. It never occurred to me they can operate as stand-alone programs.

Yes, thats my fear too. Their sharpening is really nice since its based on the combination of lens and camera but I'm afraid that with many newer lens and camera combinations coming out they are falling behind. Two of my current lens aren't supported by them now and I'm having to rewrite the lens maker note info to get to a close lens that is supported by them to use the lens sharpening feature.
