This image was taken at a stage play that took place in a gym. I used a 10-22mm lens in order to get the entire set in the picture. This picture was cropped using Picasa. The speed was 1/100 at a ISO of 2500. I thought the speed was sufficient, given the lens I was using. I am thinking I should have used a 24-105 F4L lens to avoid any cropping. I would appreciate any comments. Thank you in advance.

My old eyes think it's a little soft.

You are absolutely right, which could I have done to make it sharper?

The main problem is slightly overexposed. A tripod would help, since we don't know all of your settings we can'y really help with the settings.

Ok. So, I should have adjusted the exposure compensation to a -1?
I'd guess that you shot this with the lens wide open, or close. DOF looks to be very narrow, and the focus is just behind the group. Nothing you can do to refocus, but increasing contrast (in this case) would fool the viewer into thinking it's sharper.
Little over exposed and ISO 2000 is higher than I think needed. Dropping that number will help darken. Also, what Fstop were you at? IF in doubt F8 is my go to when I question such a shot.

Looking at the EXIF data shows a few small areas of concern which, cumulatively, could have caused the slight blur. High ISO - Don't know if the EOS7 Mk II can handle this 2500 ISO well or not?? Lens at max zoom (22mm) - some lenses are not at their best zoomed all the way out. DOF looks good at 7.4' to 21.3'. The f/5 aperture should be OK but for max sharpness, as mentioned, f/8 would probably be better. Hand held 1/100 sec. shutter speed would not work in my old shaky hands - 1/250 is pretty much my minimum. I think a flash would have probably eliminated most of these little problems. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks. Couldn't use the flash, but the other comments make perfect sense.

Looks like it was time to haul out the tripod. Hand holding at 1/100 will get you a soft image many times even with this wide angle lens.

What are you planning to do with this pic? If you are planning to give a print to each member, give them each an 8X10. They won't even notice the softness. A higher speed would result in slower f-stop or higher ISO. The above advice for a tripod is the way to go, or perhaps a monopod
