I'm a newbie & some people use LR/PS & others use On1.
Sorry if I started a Nikon - Canon debate that's not my intention.
I've been using LR, I find PS difficult to use & not very intuitive.
I was wondering what you guys & gals use & why?
Thanks

I like LR. As far as an editor is concerned it's pretty good but it is somewhat limited. PS picks up the slack where LR falls short in editing. PS does have a lot of things it can do, so it takes a while to learn it. But when you get comfortable with it you can do great things.

LR really shines at organizing my photos. I always add keywords to my photos so if I'm looking for something specific I can search for a keyword and get all the appropriate photos within seconds, no matter how long ago I took the photo.

Since LR/PS works for me I have not spent any time looking for alternatives. I have not tried ON1.

This has been discussed many times and I think you will find that people use a variety of software. The software you use depends on your personal needs and the way you like to work. Many people use LR/PS, me included, and many others use ON1, Affinity, Luminar, and so on. They are all good in some ways and perhaps not so good in others, depending on what your needs are. Use the free trials most software companies use to see what works for you. One of the things that LR offers that many other programs do not offer is the use of its Digital Asset Management system that is built into the program; this allows you to mark or keyword your photos and helps you to become and stay organized once you set up the way you want to do it. The program also allows you to easily use third party software and then return that edited photo to its original folder and to create copies within the program so that you can keep track of everything fairly easily. LR acts as a "mission control" program. Other programs may be offering this feature in the future. PS, and Affinity is similar, allow you to use layers to create individual looks based upon your skill as well as to edit. ON1 stores and allows you to use many different filters right in the program (and also allows layering), as does Luminar. Decide what you want from a program, then do the appropriate research, and pick the program that suits your needs.

I've moved completely to LR for all editing and think that for most people, LR is all you need. There's a learning curve and Lightroom is a different way of thinking about how to do things. I became a lot more comfortable with using the software after working on my own and then finding some useful video training on utube. There's a lot of high-quality how to videos, completely free, except for maybe having to wait to skip through an advertisement.

PS is a hard program to master, but most people are very successful only learning 30% of the program to do what they need to do. It is one of the most widely used, and correspondingly most unapproachable software packages ever written. After 20 yrs using it, I feel I have mastered that 30%, maybe a little more.

I use LR for everything, basic, heavy lifting for tone, color, contrast and some presence (clarity, saturation, dehaze, vibrance). But for really getting a finely tuned end product I rely on PS and On1. I am still feeling my way around On1's raw conversion, which I think may be better than LR's. I've been a little lazy since I am so comfortable with LR, On1 DXO and Capture One.

I can do what I need with LR and PS, but if I add On1 to the mix, I can get there faster and sometimes with a little better result.

I use the Adobe Cloud almost exclusively. I have LR and PS.. the only thing I use PS for is things that can NOT be easily done in LR and that is maybe 3 or 4 images a month. Having said that, I have All of Nikons software going back to View and its follow-ons, Camera Control Pro (which I use for it's tethering which I find superior to anything Adobe or others seem to have) and all of the versions of Capture.... Capture is good (especially the old version but not easy to use ... I occasionally use it to fine tune something. I have most of the HDR programs... including the couple that work as add-ons or plug-ins to LR. In addition I use Portrait Pro. 90% of my work is in LR, 5% in PS, and the other 5% in the rest. (not counting Portrait Pro... also works as a plug-in to LR. The HDR programs are nice and probably would get more use as I go forward. I've tried many of the others and they were lacking for me.. HOWEVER, It's been 5 or 6 years since I've tried them because I've settled into developing my skills in LR/PS rather than shotguning the market and being a novice at 20 programs rather than proficient at 2 or 3. However, I do keep ALL of my software up-to-date and sometimes take an image an try it in the others (especially an image that is being difficult) to see if it can do better.

If you do decide to go to YouTube. Punch in Anthony Morganti. He has just finished or is about to a bunch of stuff on On1, of course, a whole bunch of info on LR and anything else.

I use Lightroom 95% of the time, PhotoShop 5%, however, I play with Photoshop everyday to have fun (tutorials, e-books, etc). I recently purchased Luminar and to my dismay I am finding I can not achieve the result I get in Luminar (applying just a few filters) with Lightroom or Photoshop. Luminar is a great program for those like myself that aren't very creative. If I were more of an artist, I would rarely work out of LR and PS.

I did that; you won’t be sorry. You can use ON1 as a stand-alone or as a plug-in to LR. That’s what I mostly do because I already have a catalog system set up in LR that I sort of like. You might also try Luminar--it also works as a stand-alone or as a plug-in.

I import into Lightroom, make adjustments, and usually finish in On1.

Your choice doesn't have to be one or the other. You can have it all. I start in LR, which is good for 99% of my needs, BUT from Lightroom, you can chose PS and On1. In the top menu bar, click on "photo" --> "edit in" and then choose from a drop down. After you make your changes, you can then go back to LR with the changes you made in the other program.
