Hello, I'm new to this site so I'm looking forward to learning from all of you. I'm traveling this summer to Prague and know it's a beautiful city to photograph. Can any of you inform me of any places, buildings, or unique things to photograph while there? I know about the Charles Bridge, the castle and the Old Town Square. Thank you for any help or guidance.

Have a wonderful time, you do not have to worry, as you will find something interesting around every corner, it is a beautiful city, the only city that I have considered more beautiful was Petersburg in Russia!

Thank you! I'll be carrying my camera and tripod with me everywhere and plan to get up early every day to catch the sunrise and very few tourists in my photos....that's what I'm most concerned about! :)

Lidice, a town about 20-30 miles west of Prague which was totally destroyed and all adult inhabitants executed by the Germans in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich during WWII It is now a memorial and a very moving experience. Don't miss it!!

My advice: widest, fastest high quality non-distorting lens you can get for your camera. Pictures are everywhere at all times of day but the wide lens will give you greatest architecture images on narrow streets and wide avenues.

Keep an eye out for Michael Cohen. He sometimes visits Prague.
Sorry.

Welcome to UHH!

Yes, indeed, Prague is a beautiful city. But watch out for pickpockets. Rick Steves (travel writer) points out that they are especially active in the area of Old Town Square near the Astronomical Clock. I suppose that's because there is usually a large tourist crowd waiting to see the clock put on its hourly show.

I advise you NOT to take a tripod. The crowds are horrendous and it will be too difficult to use. Campa island and the Devils Strean, Little Venice. Bertramka.
Vysehrad is well worth seeing as well as Ziskov.

As a note regarding Lidice: All the men and older boys were executed. The women were sent to Ravensbruck Concentration camp, the "Aryan" looking children were adopted by German families and the rest sent to Terezin or other camps. 82 were never found. Most of the women and the remaining children returned to the area. The town itself had been burnt to the ground and blown up, completely destroying the entire village with even the graves torn up and destroyed. A new village was built for the returning women about a mile away from the original townsite.

To Keldon, I can understand that the crowds will be horrendous and a tripod will be cumbersome but I'll be in both Prague and Paris on this trip and there may be times when I will need the tripod. Thanks for the advice.

To srt101fan, thanks for the warning on pickpocketers. I've been to other places like Rome where Rick Steves warns about them also. I'm always wary in big groups and always use a money belt. Plus, I'm 6'3, 245 and work out daily so they BETTER not mess with me! :)

Have a great trip, and, if you're a beer drinker, enjoy the local beers!
