Sony A99 vs A99II buffer

I have been using the original A99 for around 4 years now, mostly fast action photography. Have been pleased overall with some of the images that I have captured but the buffer fills up so quickly. To those that have actually used both, Is the buffer that much better on the A99II, or is it time to switch systems?

Yes the buffer on the A99II is much better, with greater capacity. If you have a host of A-mount lenses then an upgrade to the A99II would be good.

Otherwise I would recommend you consider going to Sony E-Mount cameras, such as the A7III or A7RIII (both A99II and A7RIII have 42 megapixel sensors). Right now the A7III is the best price/performance of any full-frame mirrorless cameras.

You can use A-Mount lenses on E-Mount with the Sony adapter.

But selling all your A-Mount gear and going to E-Mount will get you the latest tech and features going forward. Of course the biggest buffer camera from Sony is the A9, but that is a $4500 option, not for everyone's budget.

BTW I have Sony A7RIII and A7III. Cheers

I still use a few A-mount (Sony and Minolta) lenses with the LAEA 3 and 4 adaptors on the a7RM2. There are some good a-mount lenses that appears you have already invested in. I have looked at the A99M2 and liked it because it is really just the a7RM2 in a bigger body with translucent mirror so it can use A-mount lenses. If I was only use A-mount lenses I would have got the A99M2. FE mount lenses are not inexpensive. It could strain your bank acount to move to sony mirrorless and e-mount lenses.

Maybe it may be time to upgrade to the a99ii. As you already know, that camera is not a mirrorless, but a Translucent Mirror Full Frame DSLT. You may want to try using an action lens, such as the 70-200 f2.8 in A-mount. And use a faster read/write memory card. Or, sell everything you have in A-mount Gear, and get an a7 series mirrorless camera. The a7iii and a7riii are good ones. And they have a better battery than either of the a99 series. The a99ii is priced at about $3200 when first released. Those LAEA3/4 adapters are not cheap either. Good luck.

I have the awesome a99ii. I upgrades from the a65. I have not used the a99. I have no problem with the buffer. I do recommend fast SD cards for memory. I really like the 5-ax stabilization. The 42mp is great too. The camera will also use APS-C lenses in either aps-c format or super 35. About the only thing the a9 does better is video. Try the a99ii out and I think you will love it. You can PM me for more questions if you want.

Thanks for the replies. I prefer the size of the DSLR(A-mount) over the mirror less bodies. I have handled the 7 series e-mount and just didn't like the feel. Regarding lenses I have a host 16-35 24-70 cz version I, 70-200 version I, and 85 cz and 50 sony. First pic taken with 85 cz others with 70-200. Lens speed is not the problem, buffer filling up too quickly is.

I had an a99 and now have an a99ii and as I recall the a99 buffer was just over 18 shots and the a99ii hits the buffer around 55 shots (which goes by fast if you're shooting at 12 fps). I love my a99ii and the only E mount camera that is tempting to me is the a9, but there are a few things about it I don't like. I suspect I will one day have an E mount but, at this time, I believe the a99ii is the best overall camera Sony makes. I do envy some of the new GMaster lenses but there is some solid A mount glass available as well.
