location question

OK, This wasn't covered in anything I studied in the Part 107, or on the test or anything, but....

I've been doing a lot of commercial work, and have been asked to get some drone photos of downtown. (like on a Sunday afternoon, late, when it's not busy)

We have a park right downtown, and I would be able to fly without being directly over the heads of bystanders (there's a pond, so I could guarantee, (unless someone falls in the pond, and then accidently swims to the middle???) that I'm not over anyone's head. There are no heliports or airports close enough to be an issue.

Who/where exactly would I go to make sure I had permission to get the aerial shots I need for the commercial real estate company that hired me? Has anyone else done this?

I'm leery of contacting just any old agency, like just walking in the city county building, just in case I meet up with an anti-drone person who doesn't really have the authority, or on the flip side, someone that is pro drone, but doesn't have the authority to give permission?

Anyone run into this in a medium size city? I know it's done, because the news does it all the time. I just want to err on the side of being properly authorized.

Your local police department is definitely where you need to get permission. They will have on hand any restrictions (or lack thereof) that they might be enforcing regarding drone use in parks. I have done this where I live and gotten permission to fly from several locations including public places like soccer fields if unused. I've also been denied by every local/state/FED agency when wanting permission to photograph from the BlueRidge Parkway or any of their parks/forests/waterfalls.

Second is that you must have actually taken the uAS exam and have your remote pilots license to do what you are describing for compensation. You indicate 'study' of part 107....that's good, but not sufficient.

Nope, fully certified, I just went back over my Part 107 study materials to see if I could find it, to stay away from the "you should know that if you are certified" responses.

I'm also insured up to the teeth with PPA drone insurance (the maximum) because of weddings and other events where they've requested drone coverage. Better too much, than too little.

I just don't want to be hassled, or anything while I'm there on a Sunday afternoon while there are as few people as possible downtown. For my night, street photography, I choose busy times, this one is different.

Thanks. I have several friends on the force, so I'm sure they will know who I contact there.

To Whom it May Concern:

For the past few months I have been trying to join a NJ Drone Meet up Group. A friend of mine showed me, but I forgot how to do it! Any Help?

Probably best to post a new topic, instead of posting to an older thread. If you aren't sure how to do it. Click the link at the top "Create New Topic", then select the drone forum under the pull down menu.

As for how to find a meetup group, I really don't remember how, I think you go to a website called "meetup.com" or something like that, and there are a lot of topics/geographic locations to choose from, but it's been a very long time since I looked into it. Hopefully someone can help you with that.

Good luck
Bob

You'll get more answers on a new topic with a title that makes people want to open it.
I'm as guilty as anyone, that if a topic has been around for a while, I end up "unwatching" it, because after a few weeks, the conversation often digresses into something resembling a food fight. It happens on every forum, not just UHH.

Some my grumble that your question was asked before, but if you don't know something, ask. That's what we are all here for anyway, isn't it?
