THIS is why many of us were not interested in moving to Adobe's subscription plan from our standalone PS and LR software. While it will also cost money to keep standalone software running in the long term, we can usually choose to buy, or not buy, an offered upgrade, the timing of those outlays is always much more controllable, and the software keeps working no matter what we decide. With an Adobe subscription, every month it's pay whatever our price is right now or your software stops performing at least some its basic functions (I print from LR, and would lose that if I stopped paying a subscription.)

Admittedly the PS/LR monthly cost is trivial for many, probably most, of us. But that's today. I for one didn't want to bet on what the future would bring to this arrangement, and so got the final standalone LR version.

Go with Affinity Photo or Luminar and you have no monthly subscription and all the editing you need.

Actually, for me the most valuable feature of LR is its Collections. Most of my photography for a year ends up with photo books that a dozen family members get as Christmas presents. But not everybody gets the same images. My wife and I choose which images will go in at least one of the books, and those go into a Collection. We then make up a list of who gets a copy of which ones, and each recipient then gets a sub-Collection created for just their pix. I do one edit of each (all prints are 8x8 black and whites - been doing this format for about 35 years) which is reflected in all collections, and I print each recipient's "book" by just going through their collection in the Print module.

The use of Collections has VASTLY simplified my production of these Christmas books, all of which takes place between Thanksgiving (the cutoff for "this year's" pictures) and Christmas. So unless and until I find a replacement package that offers this kind of functionality, I will keep my standalone copy of LR 6.14 running - even if it limits my ability to upgrade my computer or OS (currently a quad-core Mac Mini running Sierra) or to move to newer cameras.

I would expect Adobe to soon change the pricing structure on LR as well. They have discovered the sugar tit and won't be able to stay away from regular price increases.

As a company I can't blame them for their subscription model. The stock has certainly done well. As a user I don't trust where they're going with all this. And no I will not store my collection on Adobe servers as invaluable as my stuff is, it's still my stuff.

Happy shooting

My subscription for PSCC and LRCC for $10 per month is a lifetime price. The only thing that could change that would be unsubscribing and then coming back. I suspect that most have that deal so this news is not really relevant to us.

I dumped LR/PS about six months ago in favor of Capture One Pro. I think its better than LR but there still are a few things that are easier in PS so I rely on CS6 which works well for me.

I think the Adobe updates have been lack-luster when compared to the features and ease of use provided by competitive programs , without the endless payments.

Adobe is testing the waters...the prices will increase sooner than later. 50% is a bold move.
