This brings back a memory from the late-seventies. I had a Nikkormat FT2 35mm film camera. A buddy sold me a 200mm zoom lens - Vivitar, with a Nikon mount adapter, I think. The lens was very heavy - and long. It had a tripod mount ring about midway along the barrel. Some where or anothert, I ran across a pistol-brip handle with a tripod screw on the upper end.The grip was simple - no trigger, but it allowed me to hold up that big honker of a lens with reasonable stability.
So one day, I'm out driving around on a nice, sunny Saturday, looking for photo ops. I was in a Mississippi Gulf Coast community, and decided to drive along a road that passed a few bayous. I drove past a boat repair shop, and just 50 or so yards up the road, I spotted a glorious white crane, standing on one leg, out in a small bayou. I pulled over, grabbed the Nikkormat and fitted the big ol' zoom to it and attached the pistol grip. I then stuck the camera out my window, where my hand on the pistol grip was clearly visible.
I suppose someone at the boat repair shop saw this, and from a distance, thought I was leveling a rifle at the crane. He must've called the law. I took a few shots, and decided to get out of the car to try for some different angles. The bird didn't seem to mind. He stayed put. I'd leaned against the front fender of my car, and was clicking off frames again, when I heard the sound of gravel popping under a car tire. I looked up to see a county sheriff's patrol car moving past - very slowly.
I smiled, holding up my camera rig away from my body, so that the deputy in the car could clearly see what it was. He laughed and shook his head, waved and drove on. I looked back at the boat repair shop, and saw three or four people standing out in front, apparently hoping to see me arrested and hauled away. Again, I held up the camera rig, smiled and waved, and went back to my photography. By the time I left a few minutes later, the boat repair shop folks were being herded back inside, apparently by a ticked-off manager.
That was 39 years ago, in a very different world, with a much smaller camera rig. I wouldn't want to think of what might happen with the rig in the OP.

Now that's a support system! Back in the late seventies, I had considered something like this for shooting wildlife with a long telephoto on a Minolta 35mm. It would have been a coupling of one hobby with another, but the idea never proceeded to fruition.

I have built several of those for use with nikon cameras, but I now photo with Olympus Mirrorless and do not really need one. Since I have been shooting rifles since I was 12 I found them to be extreemly vibration resistant with heavy lenses,

which pretty much sums up the current PC climate - As Forest said, "stupid is as stupid does." Truth is a rifle stock is an excellent way to handle a long lens and still remain mobile.
