Did some astro-imaging testing (playing) last night using an unmodded Sony RX10 IV. It surprised me with its Ha response.

Rosette: RX10 IV (600mm, f/4, 36x30sec. @ ISO3200) on Celestron AVX mount, unguided.

The Pleiades: RX10 IV (600mm, f/4, 19x30sec. @ ISO3200) on Celestron AVX mount, unguided.

Subs preprocessed in Lightroom, aligned, stacked and stretched in PixInsight, postprocessed to taste in Lightroom. No noise reduction or sharpening applied.

With its 2.4 µm photosites the RX10 III/IV has great resolution but is not rated as a particularly good low light camera. It does require 40-50 subs to mitigate noise, which is obvious if you take a close look at the Rosette vs. The Pleiades images. But its sensitivity is pretty reasonable. Of course an f/4 aperture helps!

Enjoy!

Very nice. Experimented with my RX 10 IV but getting spot on correct manual focus for Astro images is tough. What is your technique?
Thanks
