Thanks for that Swamp-Cork. I'm a little surprised though because this was supposedly deleted by Admin. Said I double posted because I originally forgot to include Download. But backatcha with the compliments. I refreshed myself with your site and realized I am a big fan of your work. Matter of fact I'm trying to master the twin arts of macro and BIF. After 50-odd years the odds are getting longer.
But you keep putting your stuff out there.

Many thanks for the kind word, Raz, but I'm really just a not so great birder and photographer that decided to purchase a camera to help in the identity of unfamiliar birds and then became more interested in photography. In my pre-teens, I did have an old Agfa 120 bellows camera and did remember the exposure triangle! I am using a Nikon D7100 with 18-140 and 70-300 kit lens along with a first generation Tamron 150-600 lens! I'm very much still struggling and trying to improve my techniques and also trying to become more familiar with post-processing and have a long ways to go! I was looking back over some of your posts and on one there was quite a discussion about sharp images and the difference that quality lens made! I agree about the difference they make but it's amazing what some people can do with less than stellar equipment. One uhh member that use to post quite often was gregory45 and if you are not familiar with his work it would be worth a look. Most of his work was posted using a Canon T2i or a T3i and an old used lens. I can remember the automatic focus failing and him continuing using it by manually focusing for a long time before replacing it. Most of his work was taken in the Everglades, and his residence was destroyed by a hurricane last season. He has fairly recently become well know in that region and some of his work has been featured in the local art museum. He has not posted since last July, but think that you would enjoy his work and think he is spending most of his time now showing and selling it. Take care!

Thanks for getting back to me and also for the lead. I'll check him out. And you're right, much can be done with little. I think the acronym G.A.S. is the most appropriate term for what generally ails a lot of us. (:)
BTW: I also shoot with a D7100 but recently picked up some used 2.8 glass, a 70-200 Nikkor and an old push/pull 35-70 Nikkor and the difference is night/day.

Will be looking for some images taken with the 2.8 and sure you will really enjoy using it! Before I purchased the Tamron lens I ran across a person using a push/pull telephoto lens, and he was quite happy with it, but that was probably five years or more ago!

Swamp-Cork (you gotta tell me how you came by that handle). It just so happens the shot of cute little Riley (the dog) was shot with my
AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II at 1/400, 145mm, f/13, 450 ISO. Picked it up used on eBay for over $600 cheaper(!) than almost anywhere else. I say that because the lens is like brand new, literally. I don't understand how lucky I was but clearly the gods of hot deals were with me. And as regards the push/pull lens, the Nikon 35/70mm 2.8D (no VR) was the #1 Nikon pro lens from the mid 90's thru about 2005 and it's sort of my walk around lens (mainly for the unbelievable quality and sharpness of it's images) in spite of its lack of VR. I just use faster shutter speeds handheld.
Nice trading thoughts with you. Raz

br Will be looking for some images taken with t... (show quote)

That's some really nice glass, Raz and looks to me like you are putting it to very good use! I like to shoot in the early mornings hours and always seem to be searching for more light, and a couple more f/stops could be very helpfu!.. My Swamp-Cork handle comes from a lifelong nickname of Corky, and a love of the wetlands. We live along a beautiful little tidal river, the Chickahominy, with beautiful and very old bald cypress trees along it banks, so that's where the swamp part comes from! The Chickahominy river was described by Captin John Smith's in his writings describing it when they first sailed up the James River and then entered it. I guess I had better quit while this reply is still readable as I have lost two more inclusive replies to you for some unknown reason this morning! Take care!

Just FYI Corky, as you know, you live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I know because one of my dearest friends lives just 20 mi. southeast of you on Halfway Creek, just off the James, a couple mi. south of Williamsburg. Some of my very few but most favorite images have been shot around their estate.
Have a good day.
Raz
