To all those who had their humor shaped by Mad Magazine!! I'm always amazed at how geniuses like Don Martin come up with their material.

I spent hours as a kid reading MAD in the 60's. Thanks for sharing.

Remember the January 1961 issue?

How about the Mad version of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas?

The 1961 issue, when turned upside down looked the same. http://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/143059725642235873/

The Christmas poem would have been late 1960. Twas the night before Christmas and all threu the pad, not a hipster was swinging, not even old Dad....

I had to hide these literary works...you'd think that they were girlie mags. Couldn't watch The Untouchables with Elliot Ness either!

I was introduced to MAD in the early '60s, still have them stored away. They're not in good shape having been read over and over but I still pull them out a reread them. I never had to hide them, parents didn't "get" them but I got to read them anyway. I also still have some of their paperback books. I ended up buying their CD collection of the magazine.

One of his card jokes I've always remembered, on the back of a toilet door.
" Look before flushing, you may have dropped your wallet". A great piece of advice.
How many since those days, have dropped their phone in.

I have heard of several phones that made quite a splash as it were.
