To my eye, from an aesthetic point of view it shows that most options are better than flat, grey misty weather. In #2 the weather may have been colder and harsher, but visually it's more engaging, more colourful and brighter. Some scenes may look good with a misty background, but this isn't one of them.

Putting my critical hat on, there are parts of the sky round the sun that have gone too green. That isn't a natural phenomenon, it's a limitation of the sensor. You might find that it responds to the Aqua slider in the HSL tool, or perhaps a WB or Tint shift applied locally.

It's a consequence of shooting directly into the sun. I fiddled around with it with exposure and in post. and this was the best result. I even cropped out the sun, but I still liked this version best. I even have versions in aperture and in shutter priority. never tried manual, maybe that would have been better. Truth is it didn't occure to me at the time. Oh well! In any event, thanks for the suggestion.

This is a very good example for a comparison of moods. The same scene has a vastly different feel depending on the weather. I like the scene with the mist. I like those kind of images. There is, as R.G. pointed out, more impact in the second image. That probably has to do with the brightness and high contrast. I like that you thought to shoot the exact scene with different light. Gives us a good view of how things can change. I like them both and I believe that these two shots do, indeed, give us a lot to consider. Nice post.
