Yes I would. I know there are many people who are considering this lens...and for good reasons. I think it is a good choice for zoos, botanical gardens with the possibility of birds or animals, and even landscapes. Here are more photos with this lens from my recent trip to Florida.

I am very happy with my Tamron 18-400, also. (Just to confirm... these are all hand-held shots?)

Yes, these are all hand held shots. I usually use a tripod for landscapes. These were taken with a Nikon D5500.

Oh my!!! I could never get anything that wonderful with my Nikon 750 with the similar Nikon lens. Just can't get sharp images even with a tripod and timer.

I'm another who would buy this lens again - I have it paired with a D7500 and find it to be a very capable all purpose lens.

RonBoyd, thanks for posting that. I have a Nikon D5500 and am considering buying the 18-400. I have the Nikkor 18-140 DX and wondered if the Tamron performs as well in the 18-140 range as the Nikkor.

Thanks!

Sue

Are you finding that you are getting sharp, crisp edges. And if you do bird photography are you getting good feather detail? I have the D7500 and find it to be a very capable camera. I have been using the 70-300 AF-P lens with very sharp results but it isn't quite long enough- Thank you for your input.

Can anyone make a personal comparison between this lens and the 150-600 mm lens- in terms of image quality.

I also have a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. I think the Sigma is sharper than the Tamron 18-400. I’ll go with the Sigma if I know I’ll do mostly birds and animals, want the reach, and don’t mind the extra size and weight. If I want versatility and portability it’s the Tamron.

Nice ones. You were luckier than we were at the San Diego Zoo last month. The lions, tigers, koalas and pandas were all sleeping. Boring photography

My wife has thousands of shots with both lenses and would not care to argue which is better, however the extra focal length makes it a no contest! A lot of these shots were wildlife and a fair amount of landscape.
