Lightroom catalog error

I am trying to synch some photos. Synch reports 183 files to synch but when I go to Import, they are grayed out with a message that they are already cataloged. Import fails giving a message that there are no files to synch.

How do I fix that?

Uncheck sync duplicates.

If the files are in the catalog, but LR can't find them, you'll need to tell Lr where they are. Sync will not work in this situation. You'll have to find where they files are, and tell LR to go find them there. The "missing" files will have an exclamation point in the upper right hand corner. When you click on it, you will get a dialog box like the one below. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. I don't think that not syncing duplicates by unchecking that option will help, since Lr is telling you that you can't sync the files because they are already in the catalog.

In the future, you can avoid this by syncing after every file change that you do in Finder or Windows Explorer, or even better yet, use the tools in LR to do your file management.

If you know, from File Explorer for example, that the files are really there, just go to that folder in LR but do not hit import beforehand.

Thank you. This worked for most of the files. Scanned for missing files and could not find any. The rest are a puzzle.

If the files are in the catalog, but LR can't find... (show quote)

Thanks for the answer. Unchecking that box did clean up the problem to some extent. LR did not find any missing files. This is someone else's computer so I do not know how the files were handled in the first place. Managing files in LR only is really the best and only thing to do and the hardest for new users to remember.
