Beautiful shots, especially considering they are in a zoo setting, crisp detail and great color. I love #8, they seem to be smiling.

Bushpilot,

Thanks, the snow helped quite a lot for the color.
Shooting a 5.6 helps minimize the background.
Though for # 8 I probably should have used F11 to get both of the wolfs more in focus as Imagemeister alluded to.

Mike

I love the one with the two together 8-) ...- except the focus should be on the one to the left with the snow on nose - and you clipped his ears .....8-(

Imagemeister,
I agree about the ear clipping, (something I will have to watch in the future) and maybe I could have switched to F11 but I liked the look of the 1 on the right.
But thank you for your response, it gives me reason to change the way I look through the viewfinder.

Very nice set of photos. The zoo is a great place to create memories.

Indiana,
Thanks for your response.
I agree, the zoo is a great place for memories, and photos. :)
I am grateful that I live that close.
And well worth the membership fee, to visit when I have free time.

Mike

I think it is pretty well accepted that if there are muliple subjects, the preference for focus goes with the closest - and actually, having both in focus is generally not accepted either unless they are actually on the same plane (unavoidable) or for some other mitigating artistic reason. As always in photographic art, there is room for conjecture here.

Of all those pix of those wolves, the one with that direct glare is the best---Nice series

RobertW,
Thanks for your response.

The one you mention comes close to a capture I took about a year ago.
Closer and directly into the camera. My sister had it printed on a pillow for her husband, and I have it as my computer background.

Appreciate the comments.

Imagemeister,

Well I learned something. For me that is what it is about.
Thank you.

These Mexican Wolves certainly are beautiful, SharonAnn ...

It's actually kinda scary ... we look at them here in a zoo environment ....

But, in the wild ... all wolves are vicious animals ....

Yeah, but these are wolves in sheep's clothing, now - aren't they, Mike?

You really think they all went to the same dentist, to have their teeth cleaned, do you, Mike? ....

Isn't it possible they all got caught on the same barbed wire fence?

Apparently you did not read that these were taken at a zoo. I believe when vets clean teeth on animals that might bite, they put them under. The small shaved spot was probably for the anesthetic.
