Sharpening using vivid light blend mode

This method assumes you are sharpening the base layer.
- Duplicate the base layer twice (Ctrl-J)
- Select both layers to create a group
- Select the group blend mode to Overlay
- Select the first layer
-- Change it to smart object
-- Change the blend mode to Vivid
-- Use surface blur
--- Adjust the radius
--- Adjust the threshold
--- Click ok
You are done.
To control the effect using the group:
- Use a mask
- Use the opacity
- Use layer style
- Duplicate the base layer twice (Ctrl-J)
- Select both layers to create a group
- Select the group blend mode to Overlay
- Select the first layer

-- Change the blend mode to Vivid
-- Use surface blur
--- Adjust the radius
--- Adjust the threshold
