Was there ever a "Best" 35mm Film SLR? ... if so, what was it, in your opinion?

Canon F1 and Ftb
The Canon F1 was a beaut, huh, John?
All metal ... beautiful lines ... built like a tank ....

The Pentax K1000 was a firm film favourite. Well made, simple to use and by comparison today, light.
It has made somewhat of a come-back with collages and film students with the re-introduction of film.
That's good, LF .... simple camera ... easy to learn photography basics w/o all the fine tuning ....

Always liked the FUJICA ST range, late 1970's. Had the ST801 myself and it was so simple to use with 7 diodes viewable through the viewfinder. Not so small as an OM1, but I always thought the lenses were first rate.
That's neat, John ... always liked lights to get your exposure right ... can't go wrong when they're all green, can you?

Nikon FM3A
What made the FM3A so great, Par?

The Zenit E was my first SLR, too, Shag ....
How was the Nikon FM3A different than the original FM, Shag?
Just much more sophisticated Chris. My FM is smashed and battered, it's been to some interesting places, it must still be worth £30. It is not for sale! Incidentally, my bro'-in-law has just sorted out an old Zenit (not exactly certain how old) for me. Should be interesting to have a play.
The FM3a is much closer to the FE2 than the FM or the FM2. It's about the same as the FE2 except that it has all the mechanical shutter speed when in manual mode.

Saw a picture of a newer model Zenit recently, Shag ...
Think they're making DSLRs now ....
Looks like the Russians have finally caught up ....
That old Zenit E was something, huh? ... Light readings via the cell in the prism ... no battery required ....
Kinda miss that "manual everything" theme ... still, I suppose you can do that, still, with modern DSLRs ....

It seems to me all those FE and FM models were just an extension of the Nikkormat line, weren't they, D?
Very confusing ... wish Nikon had just continued it ... it was easier to differentiate them from the big F models ....

This one's open ... you can include any manufacturer - past or present. Just trying to get an accurate assessment from everybody who's used them (or, still is ....)
Either my F with Meter head and prism heads and lots of focus screens or my FM, small and light. Will probably run some Ektachrome thru them when it's back.
I really liked my Pentax Spotmatic. Light weight, easy to use, accurate light metering and good Super Takumar glass. Wish I still had it. I have a Pentax MX which is basically a Spotmatic updated with some electronics and the ability to attach a motor winder.

Having your FM repaired, R ... or, did you loan it out?

Hey, Greg ... where you been hiding? ...
Yes, but that MX is so much better than your original Spotmatic ... so, you're ahead of the game ....

Just hangin’ arround, reading and waiting for some decent/warm weather to go out and take some pics. I’d like to run a roll through the MX, but it first needs some maintenance. The foam light sealing strips have degraded and need to be replaced before the camera can be used. Then I hope I can find batteries for it.
