I second the positive comments regarding KEH.

Perhaps they just don't want the item... I have used price to encourage or discourage customers to make or not make a deal more than a few times. They offer a low price and if you take it fine, if not fine. Sometimes I have had customers that I can see are gong to be a challenge and I will offer to do the job at a higher than normal price. If they want the deal I will do it for the higher price, otherwise the job may not be worth the trouble at a lower "normal" price. I would think that you would have encountered this before in your life experiences...

First of all let me say, for 10 years or so, I have used Amazon, and loved everything about doing business with them, EXCEPT on this one deal. I went to sell them a totally perfect Nikon 85mm micro DX, VR lens. I sent them a perfect lens with all the accessories and original box and papers. You could not tell from brand new. They sent it back saying it had light scratches and dust. I called them and they said someone must have made a mistake to resend it back to them. I did. Today I get it back saying it had hard usage. I looked at this lens with a microscope and could not find a single scratch anywhere or anything other than a brand new looking lens. I even checked the glass and found nothing. Am wondering if anyone else ever had a similar problem or any comments. They did give me a $50 credit for my troubles. It also cost them the freight four times. They were supposed to pay me first $296 the first time and $306 the second time. I could get that on Ebay! What do you think is going on? Thanks Bob

Well, I learn something new every day. Didn't know Amazon did trade-ins. The little box is not very prominent, but it is there. I have dealt with KEH several times and have been pleased with their valuations and service.

Maybe I am missing something here. If you are selling a lens to Amazon, or any other retailer, they are going to price the lens they take in so they can make a profit on resale. I would try another retailer, such as KEH or my favorite lately, Cameta Camera. If you are also looking to make a purchase, you can usually negotiate a little more on trade in value. Both KEH and Cameta have programs where you can enter your lens specifics and get an estimate, subject to final inspection, apparently just like Amazon. The difference, as I see it, is both KEH and Cameta have people inspecting your equipment that actually know what they are doing. I have not been disappointed by their evaluations, and all have been equal to or more that the on line estimates, and promptly communicated with me on final quotes. Give them a try.

I attempted to sell a Sigma 12-24 in excellent condition, when I sent it in with all paperwork, box and checked all accessories for quote. I was told that I did not include all accessories because I placed a Nikon rear lens cap on it and not the original Sigma. I offered to send the Sigma cap in to complete the quote and the answer was no and for them to just keep the Nikon cap. The final offer I rejected and am now looking to go to Ebay. That was my experience.

I had a camera that I tried to sell to them. I was returned stating the flash would not fire. The reason it wouldn't fire is that it was turned off on the menu. One would think a person inspecting cameras would see this. Yes I should have reset the camera. I think the person inspecting wasn't very knowledgable.

Try B&H Photo, I believe you will get much better treatment. I was looking to sell Nikon 80-200 a while back, the average price on Ebay was around $270, which is exactly what B&H offered me. No hassle, no worries.

mpb.com-sold them a camera and lenses-what they quoted for my equipment was on point and one time the payment exceeded the quote.

Had a similiar experience. Sent in a used bridge camera in excellent condition with all accessories present and in the original brand-new looking box. Amazon said the camera was scratched and beaten up - NOT! They returned it to me with the software CD missing and in a beaten up box. I was furious and complained, after which they sent me $50.00.

I've always found it strange that we expect to buy new or like new at bargain prices, but when we sell to that same store/company, we expect top dollar for our used equipment. They cannot buy and sell at the same price. They have to make money, and usually it's 45% to 50% of the sell price.

Yeah, list on eBay and immediately incur a minimum of 10% selling fee. I'd rather sell on UHH and give the members a better price.

Look at it this way, you got $50.00 for your trouble. List your lens on ebay and be done with it already. I never knew Amazon bought USED photography equipment, that is something I did not know.

....AND no 10% selling fee that eBay extracts. That fee is too steep.
