Healthcare coverage in Norway

The Norwegian health care system has both public and private medical services and facilities, and it is available to all citizens who are registered as long-term residents. Public health care is basically free and is supported by the Government through the tax income scheme, while private sector health care is usually supported by patient fees.

The Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (NIS) guarantees everybody a basic level of welfare and covers regular medical consultation (there is a nominal fee that is paid by the patient), medical emergency and hospitalization. If you are unemployed and looking for work in Norway, you should carry an EHIC. This enables you to receive urgent emergency medical treatment free of charge, should you need it. This card is available from UK post offices or Department of Social Security offices.

I think it needs to be said, to keep honesty, that the Norwegians developed North Sea Oil in the 1970s. So they are now a wealthy nation. The utter hell of 1940 - 1945 taught the Norwegians to value one another for had they not many more 10s of thousands would have died at the N**i hand. The one thing that the US citizen has not had to endue is the daily travesty that enemy occupation brings.

I disagree but any comparisons like that need a few caveats. If you are trying to say that just because it works in a country of 6 million doesn't automatically mean it could be implemented successfully here, that is fair enough, but it also doesn't mean it couldn't.

I suppose it is true that refugees have moved to Norway, but the numbers are generally unknown. Wonder how many actually follow Norway news on a fairly steady basis. My ancestors came from Kragerø but I don't.
