If you have the latest High Sierra installed and are using Nik collection as a plug-in to any software you might experience abnormal termination when trying to transfer changes back from Color Flex Pro 4 or Silver Flex Pro 2. This is caused by the operating system and there is a work around to make both these plug-in software work without terminating the host program:

In both Color Flex Pro 4 or Silver Flex Pro 2 press Settings found on the lower left of screen and in the Settings menu press the one that says After Pressing OK then change the item that says to create a new layer to return to original layer, that will fix this problem and return changes made to original layer without ab-ending the host program.

I would further recommend duplicating the layer before going into Color Flex Pro 4 or Silver Flex Pro 2 that way you can alter the opacity or delete the layer if you want.

Confused..... I have been running High Sierra here, I have and use the NIK collection, not on everything, but often. I have attempted to see a crash in Silver Efex & Color Efex but have not seen it crash while editing, and looking at the settings menu, I cannot find the setting you are describing. I must be missing something?

Mine looks slightly different, look at the image output settings and let me know. Here is a link to the problem https://www.nikoncafe.com/threads/nik-is-crashing-high-sierra.306938/ and I should add their are many more links on it besides this one just google "Problem with high sierra and Nik". Another point to consider did you do the last update to High Sierra which was issued last week? At some point High Sierra broke these two pieces of Nik from returning to a new layer.

You need to open the Nik software as a plug in then you will see the "after pressing OK" in settings.

Yes, the NIK software IS a plugin, it is launched from Lightroom on my machine, there is a settings button on the lower left, BUT as the screen shot shows there is no AFTER PRESSING OK.

Nor have I had the crashes/shutdowns described by the OP.

Since the OP mentions layers, I wonder now if it only happens with Photoshop, and not with Lightroom.

Could be, I only tested it with Photoshop 2018 CC, Elements 15 and Affinity Photo 1.6.

Well, that answers that... in Lightroom there are no layers, and no "after pressing OK", but in Photoshop there are layers, and when a NIK plugin is launched the "after pressing OK" menu item shows up.

So, the issue is dependent on the host apparently. At least that is resolved ;)

First image, Color Efex launched from Lightroom.

Second image, Color Efex launched from Photoshop...

FWIW - Yes, I just did the 10.13.2 supplemental update to High Sierra as well a day or two ago.

Old foto shop wasn't like that, but new editions don't want you to use another software, included are many like Topaz and Affinity. You can try using Nik first and save and use whatever.

Where do you get that idea from? I have several plugins for Photoshop and make use of them with no issue. I currently run the latest Photoshop with CC. The same plugins have been useable thru several updates/upgrades to Photoshop.

All my old plug-ins run under Photoshop 2018 CC it was just the change to High Sierra that caused Photoshop, Affinity Photo and Elements to have problems with the 2 items under Nik, I also lost the Tools menu. This will happen with unsupported software when the operating system changes. At least there is a work around this time, but who knows about next time.

All this will likely be worked out over time. Apple and MS are scrambling at the moment, trying to patch around the latest revelation of security holes in the hardware. Maybe this will get the chipmakers off their laurels and spark a quantum jump in performance.

It would be nice, but as far as Apple goes ever since Steve Jobs died Apple has been going downhill in customer relationship. Microsoft chose the OS Apple model and I don't think they are putting in the money to research and development of OS they once did. As far as chip makers it will all depend on demand. We are on the verge of obsolescence of existing technology and until the next revolution of scientific breakthrough takes hold we will have to be content with what we have.

If “customer relationships” are going sour, how come they keep getting the highest customer satisfaction ratings in Consumer Reports? How come they’re gaining market share, while PCs are losing it? How come they still take the lions’ share of profit in the PC industry? Why can’t I find a parking space near the front of the Greensboro Apple Store?

The facts tell a different story. Apple is fine. Check out what their stock did over the last two years. 90 to 177...

Not quite! Look at the results six months later:

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2017/11/apple-reports-fourth-quarter-results/

The May articles always show Apple at its lowest point of the year. November reports show year-over-year, AND their full annual cycle.
