Desktop vs. Laptop
[quote=TriX]Agree completely, but the Pro tower is a very different beast than the IMacs
Yes indeed. I have an older MacBook Pro and i got the Mac Pro tower because it is relatively modular
And will run high Sierra ok

Yep, some of the Mac servers are nice (except for the water cooled one 😩) Va Tech was a customer of mine for storage when a computer sci professor (who will go unnamed) got a big grant and decided to build a Mac High Performance IB connected cluster. They ordered all the 256 Macs if I remember correctly (with a big donation from Apple), and after giving them a couple of hours training, recruited dozens of grad students to open each one and install an IB (Infiniband) card. They also had new water cooled racks (with fans and radiators) and the airflow was so high, you had to lean forward walking down the aisles between the racks. They had IB cables bundled on the floor across the aisles because they needed to keep the lengths within specs to the switches. It was a big deal and made Va Tech #5 on the world’s top 500 list of fasted HPC computers with lots of publicity (for one year). Only one problem - no one had a parallel file system for Macs so it never did useful work. The professor lost his $, the machine was scrapped, and they now have an Apro cluster last time I visited. Just a bit of Mac trivia on the largest Mac cluster ever built as far as I know (and obviously WAY off-topic - mea maxima culpa).
