Around here, we have towns obviously named after the first names of people. I'll have to Google their origins. Do any of you have similarly named towns near you?
Eddyville, Margaretville, Sampsonville, Elizaville, Otisville, Annsville, Glenville
Peetz, Joe's, Craig, Douglas, Alma, Peyton, Hayden, Elizabeth, Franktown, Jamestown, Alice, Ansel, Anton, Beulah, Grover, Rex and at least 200 more. Looked at the Atlas and we have an amazing amount of Colo. towns with the first name of people. Not many -villes though.
Mongaup Vally,and Cuddybackville
Two more names in your area, not first names, but the origins could be interesting
Ada, Albertville, Clarksgrove, Clara City, Hugo, Lester Prairie, Olivia, Craigsville. Many that could be first or last names, I just pikced some that sound like mainly first names.
Nope. Jacksonville is all that comes to mind. But we like to joke about Boring, Oregon

If I remember right there is an 'eddy' at Eddyville, don't know about the others, BTW I think Fishers Eddy is near Eddyville, just from driving Rt 17 when son was in college.

Hanwell (not far from where I grew up) is named after Hannah's Well, which I did find the remains of some time ago. In fact, many parts of the N.E. U.S. mirror a lot of place names around where I grew up.
