Thanks for letting me vent here.
A while back I changed TV providers and in the process they promised me money in the form of a credit card for two different amounts at two different times. I received the first relatively promptly and it was for $25 and I never received the second card. They somehow conveniently forgot. And trying to get your money for one of these huge companies is next to impossible. You get the run around by each person and no one knows what is going on and could really care less. But here is the kicker. We did not cash the first one in right away and decided to use it a little later. When we to cash it in two months later it was now worth one half. If we had waited 6 months it would have been void altogether. It is on a credit card and it is not their money it is mine. And they are stealing it from me. My wife tells me the teller told her that they are all doing this.

Did you read all of the small print? There is always small print! If not, contact the Consumer Affairs at your Attorney Generals office. You may even have a state secretary for Consumer Affairs. They love this kind of stuff. Stores and Malls were doing this with gift cards, reducing the value over time with 'charges,' but I believe the AG put a stop to it.

Not at all surprising. Some of those cards expire and can also involve fees. I had a $30 card from Staples. By the time I tried to use it, it had expired. Now I buy supplies from Amazon and others - not Staples.

Yeah, I had a similar experience with DirecTV a few years back - promised a $100 (or maybe $200) gift Visa card if I signed on, and when I remembered to check back months later it turned out that the trick they used was to require I fill out a form they sent after a few months. Of course, since their BS form was printed to look like just another of the endless stream f junkman I was getting and tossing immediately, I overlooked it and by the time I called in to inquire was told "sorry, it's too late".

This kind of scumbag marketing practice is unacceptable (other vendors promising gift Visa cards) just sent the actual card in the mail after the allotted time passed; I have no doubt DirecTV's assumption was that most folks would ignore the endless stream of bullshit mail they send out and thus would not see this "gotcha" mail.

Lesson learned, never again for DirecTV, or AT&T for that matter as they own it.

I do not understand how these companies get away with the BS they get away with! You cannot even find out how much it is going to cost you to get internet and TV. All prices listed are "when bundled" or "per month for 12 month with a 24-month contract". BULL! HOW MUCH DOES IT COST????

I've heard this story or a variation of it too many times. If the Consumer Protection policy and commission was intact and not totally decimated, there would be some way to redress this grievance, but not any more.
