Ron, You certainly inspire me. If you ever grow up, I'll want to be just like you.

You should because if you did you would learn to read the section instructions before posting.

For my taste it is too flat and grey. It needs some highlights and more contrast. I spent 5 minutes on it and got what I consider a better version. If you want I can post it.

And Ron, in re your crusade to get people to read posting instructions and use the right sub forum - lighten up - offer some help and inform them of where you feel it should be posted - not use your "You are doing it wrong dummy!" method.

Just a hint from way over 30 years in the classroom. Be the good cop trying to help and guide. Not the bad cop trying to send them up the river for life.

OK
I adjusted highlights, contrast, shadows, midtones and clarity, I used Corel's Paint Shop Pro X8 but several other apps can do the same things.

This was a 5 minute quick fix. Going into layers, selecting areas to alter and other advanced things could do even more, like separate the dog from the background better.

For my taste it is too flat and grey. It needs so... (show quote)

There is no 'good cop' nor is there any 'good teaching method'.

I want folks to learn from their own mistakes, not give them a solution. By learning by themselves one retains more than just 'reading'.

By the way, you added 'dummy'. I have never called anyone a 'dummy' or any other name when signaling the mistake. So your 'good teaching methods' do not apply to you.

Thanks for doing this. It is certainly a lot better. your suggestion to going into layers and separating dog from background is a very good one.

I never said you said "dummy", I used that as the name for the method you use - it is a matter of attitude and tone.
I was being restrained in my comment compared to some stuff people have posted after some of your comments.
And I did not say give them a solution, I said offer some help and inform them. Different from giving them the solution. It is guidance with enough info to get them to the right place to learn. The average person would be astonished how many students at the high school level haven't got the faintest idea how to "learn". So you have to guide them and in some cases lead them by the hand, and they still have trouble getting it.

Oh, I wasn't seriously trying to teach you in this case, more of a Hail Mary try. I have seen far too many tell you to lighten up and it hasn't worked yet. I have had friends pretty much the same way (and I have been that way often) and I alternated between wanting to strangle them and enjoying their company. But stayed friends through it all.
And sometimes you say and post things I agree with and I have agreed with you.

I'm jumping into this fray because I'm sick of the "space police" comments. And, the very first line of the Photo Gallery description includes asking for "general critique." That's what the OP is asking for.

If you paid attention to the print screen I always post when making a 'space police comment' you would see that this was posted originally in the wrong area then transferred by the admin. The op himself realized his error after commenting.

That this ends in the gallery is bad as the op would have benifited much more by posting in the FYC section or in the Post processing section if he enjoy seeing other folks work on his image.

So, instead of being 'sick' pay attention.

I don't know what all of you people are arguing about. I's just a nice picture of a lovely big dog. It looks like a Great Pyrenees if I'm right.
