What's your experience with this camera and is it worth the $450 it's on sale for?

Thanks,

Dave M.

Dave - I carried a G9X II for about 600 of the 800-miles I spent on the AT this past summer. I haven't posted any of that work here, now with the season in winter and my pictures from the spring and summer. Until your question I didn't realize there were current 7 or 9 models. What attracted me was shooting in RAW with a camera that fit in my pocket for handy and near immediate photography. Both the G7 and G9 models sport a 20MP sensor and DIGIC 7 processor. When I was in-town with some internet access, I could wifi edited images from the camera to my phone to the internet to show I was still alive and slowly making progress north. The camera has in-body IS and sports the P / A / T / M modes and seemingly every DSLR-like shooting tools except a detachable / interchangeable lens. The manual settings, including specific ISO rather than Auto-ISO, let me shoot some hard to focus and difficult to capture macro ish things like bugs and spider webs on the trail. It wasn't a full-frame DSLR with L-lenses, but the results are more than acceptable. There appear to be some minor differences between the G7 and G9 models with the G9 having a smaller zoom range with the G7 having a wider max aperture. I don't know that I found any shooting situations where that widest aperture generated an image I kept.

Rather than the Flickr link, here's a few quick examples of different situations to show what the processed results can generate. These links look good when opened, but clicking the details to 100% look even better, at least on my monitor after posting ...

Thanks for taking the time to respond and posting those photos! I’ve been contemplating this camera vs mirrorless, but I’m impressed with the photos this takes and portability versus carrying a mirrorless with more lenses!

I've had, still have, 4 G series power shot cameras, the 10, 15, 1X II and the new 1X III. I've never had any problems with any of them. The latest one, the G1X III is like a mini pocket sized crop frame DSLR without a removable lens. The only thing I don't like about it so far is the lens cap, big deal... If the G7 II is made as well as the other G series cameras, you can't go wrong. Just make sure you pick up a couple spare batteries. The smaller batteries charge doesn't last as long as the DSLR batteries.

I love mine and have never come close to regretting the purchase. Have taken it with me through Europe and the Caribbean and I am finding out that I use it more and more in place of my 70D.

I own the Canin G7x Mark II. I purchased it for travel. I love it. Great picture quality, shoots in Raw and easy to use. That price is great. I have had mine for awhile and am so glad I purchased it.

The G series turns up on lots of lists of the best compact cameras.

I used to love the small Canon point and shoot cameras and when I started looking at 1" sensor cameras I looked to Canon first, but ended up with a Sony and a Panasonic only because the Canon has no viewfinder. I find it difficult to use the display only in a lot of situations... maybe just my eyes.
